  • The vision is very very clear. I'm a big fan of the moves they have lots of weight. This is almost what I'd expect from a non autism flail user. A very good example of a true disjoint spacer character who's not just aiming for sweet spots but to hit his attacks at all. The moves have a lot of good properties on flip and whatnot and the setplay is real. I do think he needs 2, but not all 3 of these though: - A jumping normal. - One more bit of control on Cleave. - More variance in movement shenanigans for the setplay. The command grab is very funky atm but everything else feels really cool in motion and on hit. The airdash feels right. It just feels like the right sort of airdash that synergizes with the kit while not invalidating double jump. All in all if this gets developed further I know it'd be great. Just needs more moves and more polish. However, Gabe, I expect better from you in terms of timeliness. You almost got your whole submission sent to the shadow realm. Do better next time.
  • # __Control Freak__ ## Theme Alright, I can see what was being cooked here, but I can't lie, it kinda flops in the presentation department, specifically on what is supposed to make me feel like a serial killer? I kinda just feel like a cool dude with a plug whip less so than a deranged psycho killer. **SCORE: 2/5** ## Moves & Mechanics As of right now, Control Freak is a very simple and straightforward character, but I can dig the premise. Long-ass disjoints with a foresight sidegrade. It feels good to play. Combined with some fairly decent projectiles (albeit parriable as hell), and overall just solid coverage. He can feel quite limited at extreme close range due to most of his best buttons only hitting at the end of the plug, giving him quite a large blind spot that is only patched with very predictable jabs, but I can tell that is intentional. I quite like how zippy he feels with the plugs (said foresight sidegrade), having a character with this intense of disjoint with this level of movement is schnasty and I love it quite a lot. I do find it odd how the Snapback moves don't apply force though, I can see the utility is just stopping dead in place for a moment, but it feels somewhat cheap in my personal opinion. Not that it's unfair, as the Snapbacks can't be flipped, it just feels kinda janky. I do also wish you could break the plugs, even if you have to use your stubby lows to do so, because it is insane how quickly he can just gain total control of the arena and you just have to respect it. In all truth, the only crime Control Freak commits in the moveset department is just... not being done yet. Super solid, Me likey. **SCORE: 4/5** ## Visuals Very classic vanilla-plus animation style. Good smears, clear, defined movements, matches the hitboxes well (hitboxes are actually baked into the sprites, not sure if thats intentional or not). Not much to say, its just quality overall, if not a little bit visually bare. **SCORE: 4/5** ## Aesthetic As much as Control Freak falls short on the theming, the aesthetic cohesion definitely sticks the landing beautifully. Everything in his kit involves his plug and/or electricity in some fashion, and the nature of what is essentially a whip feeds into the gameplan he has quite well. Bravo on choosing a conceit and sticking to it all the way through! **SCORE: 5/5** ## Gameplay Considering how simple Control Freak's kit is in comparison to vanilla right now, he holds up shockingly well. Even in a world where Axl Low already exists as a mod and there being like 2 other characters in this jam alone with big ass Axl ass buttons, he manages to feel fairly novel by combining two fairly standard concepts in an unique way. His damage scales well, he has respectable hitboxes and projectiles, and while he still lacks the kind of privilege that vanilla has, he's far from useless because of it. I am very much looking forward to seeing this character completed because I hella want an excuse to play him more. **SCORE: 5/5** # TOTAL SCORE: 20/25
  • This character has some really nice aspects to it, and one of the more fun gameplays, you could easily say this holds up against the vanilla characters even. The projectiles feel rather fresh too, and the moves give a very unique playstyle, as per theming and visuals, the character is very good in those aspects, however this guy just doesn't really scream a murderer at all. Pros: Blindspots in the moves encourage careful neutral Combos can deal 5k against good DI mixup in the projectiles and moves Moves can connect to eachother fluidly Cons: Short Circuit can spawn in the opponent, and it's quite powerful for that, maybe consider making it parriable in the first 5 frames of existing. Most moves can dash cancel, which leads to resourceless combos. Basechar grab, comboing with grab is bad. This mod is unique and accomplishes what it sets out to do, whilst providing the most comparable character with the vanilla cast, strenght wise and sprite wise, the sprites feel fancy and cool but they also have the classic yomi style sprinkled in it, great job!

Pretty cool. The pieces are there, has a neutral gameplan. I think it's a bit lacking visually relative to other entries, but it's a very solid submission. Just a perfectly serviceable character overall, though I do think he should get one more normal to fill gaps. Good stuff.
