Hi all! For MGGJ 6, I want to make a minimalistic RPG with turn-based battles on the themes “sister” and “service”.
Plot idea: the heroine is a time bender looking for her lost sister. Every day, she fulfils small quests to help citizens via her “Time Magic Service”. In parallel, she looks for cues leading to her sister, as she disappeared during a quest for that same service.
Battle design: Traditional turn-based battle with a party of 3-4 characters. Skills, status alterations and stat buffs/debuffs.
Battle core mechanic idea: The heroine plays a pivotal role in the party by altering the flow of time on allies and foes to the party’s advantage: accelerate enemy’s poison effects, revert ally’s debuff, etc. (this is similar to Cris Tales, but without the whole Past/Present/Future major changes)
Scope: To make it feasible in 1 month, we would focus on turn-based battles, with simple in-game narrative sequences between battles. The game would feature linear progression with a sequence of 6~8 enemy squads to beat, including the last boss (no inventory, advanced character progression (skill tree), exploration, store nor quest system; but we may have a save system if the game becomes long enough)
Game Engine: Unity + custom framework for turn-based battle
The framework is still very young and this is the first game I intend to actually ship a game with it. But the core features are here, see this demo:
! this is a demo of the tech, not related to the game ! The jam game will have a different art direction, UI, audio etc.
Graphics: 2D, art direction to define with artists
I would work myself on system design and framework programming, so I am looking for people to work in the following fields:
Art
Environment, character (FOUND), animation, graphic design
Audio
Music (FOUND), sound design (FOUND)
Gameplay
Game design (hero/enemy abilities) (FOUND), Gameplay programming (implementing exotic abilities; common ones like cure and buff can be set directly in data)
Writing (FOUND)
Lore, story events, dialogues between battles
I have a rough idea for the overall story, but we need small quests to make it advance slowly (also, for the jam we may upload a demo that just shows the beginning of the story).
