How is your game meta (within each relevant category)?
My game is about playing characters who are playing video games. It parodies Mario and a side scrolling shooter. There's even a bonus super meta game.

OK, I finally uploaded a video of my playthrough, it can be found here:

This is an awesome idea and a great execution! Honestly, I could play a whole collection of different little games using this "control scheme". Everything looks and sounds great too, awesome job!

This is really cool! I actually had a similar idea, but ended up going with something else for the jam. You executed it way better than I could have anyways! I haven't managed to beat Jump Man (yet), so I haven't seen the bonus game, but the other two games are very nice! I do wish you could control both characters at the same time though, as others have mentioned. Would be a lot of fun as a co-op multiplayer game. Another suggestion would be making it so you have to press B to regenerate your shield in the space shooter game; that way you wouldn't just be able to have the one guy stand on the A button the entire time.

Overall, really cool concept executed really well!

Developer

Yeah I had planned to have a super laser you could shoot by pressing the B button but rhn out of time to do it. I do like the idea of recharing the shield though, that would add some nice complexity.

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

STREAM KILLER! Just kidding, very difficult but fun.  Jump man Made me so mad.

Excellent work!

Very challenging, made it up until level 4 for jump man, didn't unlock the bonus game though. Very fun and polished experience, although controls are understandably frustrating.

Enjoyed this a lot, and am a little impressed you managed multiple mini arcade games that actually felt like it. I will say that I found myself just parking on the A button and just controlling the other guy. Also the music would stop looping after a while. But very fun game nonetheless.

Good meta concept, and it didn't turn out as hard as I first thought. But I think it could be a bit less tedious if you let the player control both "players" at the same time (WASD for p1 and arrows for p2).

Great work anyway!

I enjoyed both the games but never found the hidden third one, which is a shame.  I think this would have benefited from allowing both players to be controlled at once, like with one on wasd and the other on the arrow keys or something.  I found with both games I just parked one guy on the A button and used the second one exclusively.  Allowing them both to be moved simultaneously would bring some extra cool depth of the games.

I found the bullet noise in Galaxy Gunner to get a little grating after awhile, which was a shame because all the music and all the other sound effects were excellent.

I also really liked how if you jumped over the flag and then hit it from behind !Mario would moonwalk off the stage.  That might be a bug, but it was a fun one!

Developer

Haha yeah the moon walking thing was a bug and I wanted to keep it because it was pretty neat but I had to remove it to fix a different issue.

Thanks for the feedback and if you do wanna play the secret level you just have to beat both the games, they're easier now and I reckon the bonus level is worth it.

My Review

Bugs:

On level 2 of Mario game I went past the finish line but the game didn't count it, I think I jumped over it.

Thoughts

I enjoyed the concept a lot, it made for some fun puzzles, like how to jump onto a platform then onto another surface, which would not be a puzzle in a game that you would just play. The controlling got tedious after a while, at least in the Mario game. I didn't know how to quit the game (in the game) and try the other game so I quit the game (real game). (Sooo meta).

Overall

Enjoyed it, but it got tedious.
