Nice

Cool idea with the multiple movement styles....but the art, the grammar, the control mechanics and bugs and sticks were pretty unpolished. Hope you have more time to make a more complete game!

If you get a chance to leave a review and comment on our submission would be appreciated thanks! I remember @TrashBoat almost working on something in the past! hopefully you are finding good teams to work or dev with!

The graphics give a very good first impression, and the movement is fluid. The moving from foreground to background is an interesting dynamic that is a very good match to a sidescrolling 2.5d game and it seems it is going to give for very interesting scenarios, but in my case it keeps crashing the game,  I can't play further than the initial jumps after the starting point.

Developer

I'm sorry to hear that it keeps crashing for you! I haven't had that problem yet but I'll look into it and see if it's anything that can be fixed. Thanks for your review!

I tried to play this a few times but I kept getting stuck on the invisible terrain and wasn't able to make a lot of progress. It's a shame because I was enjoying the movement, the pole jumps feel very fluid. I particularly liked the little edge grab pose. The idea of switching between the foreground and background is a really cool concept, I kept seeing places in the background that I wanted to go to or could prepare myself for ahead of time. Seeing the big castle poking up over the top of the wall was very cool and made me want to get up there.  The lack of any sort of music or sound was a bit disorienting, hopefully you can get your soundtrack in after the rating period.

Thanks for the review!

We overscoped a bit and weren't able to complete the game in the end but I'm glad you enjoyed the movement. Our programmer worked very hard on it!

Jam Judge

Enjoyment 3/5: What was there isn't bad. A sense of humor helped! Most of my nitpicks go to execution, though they definitely hampered the effect of fairly responsive controls.

Execution 2/5: Things frequently stop the player for no known reason, and the glider ability was never explained. I assume I explored everything after getting the gun and the pole-swing; in that case I take it the game is not complete. I managed to fall through at least a couple of surfaces I

Sensory 2/5: Sprite/scenery mismatch is a bit of a taste thing but it didn't work for me as a coherent aesthetic. The main sprite was decent. There was no sound.

Metroidvania: 4/5, ticks the boxes and a more complete title would have maybe gone higher. 1 of 4 points is for slightly unconventional mobility ability, though it probably hurt my enjoyment a bit just not knowing at first if I was missing an ability or falling through platforms.

Theme (Time) 3/5: I could maybe see some different time periods in the different areas, though I don't know that it was really made explicitly part of the story in-game.

Thanks for the thorough review. It was a rough jam for us but we managed to pull something together, even if it is very unfinished. The reason you were getting caught on invisible terrain was my fault. I must have moved the ground by a few pixels when I was arranging the environmental assets. As for the music, our sound guy made an amazing score for the game but I wasn't able to add it in time. Unity was not being friendly to me but I will add it in a future update

Developer

The game is ready to play! It is very unfinished and I wasn't able to add the music before the deadline but it will be updated post jam

This is just a placeholder. A build of the game is coming soon
