I feel like the only way to loose here was if you were slow enough to not change direction before the ghost accidentally walked into you, a very original take on the limitation with a menu that kind of reminded me of old rpg games like might and magic, because of the uniqueness of it i have little to say other than maybe introducing more things on the map, a change to the no kids outside might be nice as they might become ghosts and ramp up the difficulty over time, or some other characters.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the AI is minimal :-/

Great idea about more kids becoming ghost ! It give me some fun ideas ! :-D
I have though about reusing the ghost sprite floating above when loosing,  but not as a gameplay feature.

I will first finish the tuto I was watching for learning making 2D games in Godot because I was learning and then I tried to do the jam on a whim. It was my first game with Godot and doing tilemap so I made mistakes about it I think.

Thank you ! Hope you enjoyed the game.

I enjoyed it. Controls are very original, though quite difficult to get at start, ghosts never really felt as threatening as I'd have liked, but overall it's quite a fun game, some spooky music would've been really nice, and maybe a special candy worth more points that is only there for a limited time.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback !

OK, maybe I should add a instruction screen at beginning. I wanted to add a title screen but I didn't have the time.

Yes the ghost are pretty dumb. They try to goes to you but they don't know if they can go for exemple right without taking a wall, so if they are stuck, they take a random direction. Did you have this feeling because of the AI ?

Nice idea for the special candy, thanks !

You're welcome!

Yes,  partially because of the AI, but also because it felt quite easy to get candies without having to compete with them, maybe having them move towards candy if the player is not in close proximity to the ghost would work?

Title screen would be great, 3 days isn't a lot of time, but game is pretty impressive for that, hope you continue working on it!

Developer

That's a good point. Yes, maybe.

Thanks for the compliment.

Yes, it's short. I didn't sleep enought because it was my first game jam and I tried to do it without subscribing to be sure I would finish it but it was longer to make than I thought. I was like "I hope I'll finish it soon to enjoy the weekend !" but I knew I would have so much regret if I gave up. It was pretty intense.

I will first continue to learn Godot and than I would probably do a new version. The feedbacks gives paths of improvement and new features. ;-)

I like the timing based controls, it makes it difficult but at the same time I'm in full control

Developer

Thank you for the feedback ! Glad you've enjoyed it.

The gameplay was a bit monotonous, it lacked things to do. The controls felt unresponsive. I think it was programmed to change the direction once you change a movement lane, but that's not what I expected when changing directions. For me it should change once you press the button. There's a lot of potential here, hope you keep improving it!

Thank you for the review.

Yes, the idea was to choose the direction to take at the next intersection, if you want to change direction, to let you some time to choose with the 2 buttons limitation.

I wanted to force the player to anticipate the game while struggling with the kinda handicap of 2 buttons-only.

It might be a bit more difficult to play (and to program ^^).

I actually like this one. It's a fun little game, not too hard, but difficult in places. How many candies to win?

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you !

It's just about scoring, there is no limit to the number of candies.

You loose if you get hit by a ghost.
You have to go back home when you don't feel safe, to consider that you did the score of x candies.

The number of ghosts increases until 4, when you have 30 candies. After that, the difficulty stays the same.

I actually love how you managed to make this game utterly-hard by just choosing a weird way to use the controls. This may be a bad thing game-play-wise but I really appreciate the originality of how you used the limitation.

Thank you very much for your comment !

It makes me glad !

It was my intention :-D
