Very nice concept! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :)

Great game ! Good job !

Really cool auditive puzzle! It has a great core mechanic and nice elements to balance it. It gets a bit too easy at some point, and I wish there would be either an increase in difficulty, or an end. But it was still really fun to play!

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that a video of one of my playthrough/reviews is up and you're a part of it!

Ok, this is really cool.  It's like a musical minesweeper, in the best way.  I love the high scores.  The game mechanics are really cool and can definitely assist in aural learning.

Great work.

Very neat game mechanics in this one! Agree with the following comments that it could get more complicated faster as the difficulty in each level didn't seem to ramp up as quickly.

First of all, lemme enjoy my 2nd place on the score board for a second haha. My comment would be pretty bias since I've play tested your game during development on discord so I already knew the rule and all haha. The game did get a lot more interesting around level 10 and higher, and I was able to exploit a bug that was super helpful (and I think you should keep it as an intended feature): if I place a note right when the tracker comes to a column, it would automatically registers as a correct note. If it doesn't, I know it is not the correct note and I toggle it off before the tracker hits it in the next loop and spawns a spider. I was very happy with the score but then I committed suicide because later levels are just not as rewarding.  At the moment, I earn very little score when passing levels from 15 beyond, because it takes just about 100 moves to solve the puzzle (it took me about 80 each level given the fact that I was exploiting the bug). In order to maintain the satisfaction after handling a hard puzzle, there should be a reward chest for completing the level after each ends, whose value increases every level. That way, you can tweak the increment in reward accordingly to the level of difficulty. Increasing the number of moves to start with could be a solution too, but that prolongs the game and would make players not planning carefully for their moves.

On the good side, I think your game has every element of a fun game, really looking forward to seeing further development on it such as more enemies like you said, or even a local coop mode to play with friends, if someone has. Good job!

Developer

Yay!

Reward chests and items were the other thing I didn't get to implement lol.  I wanted to have a few special ability items that would (for instance) freeze enemies for a time, grant you extra moves, or uncover a few notes.

Thanks so much for your feedback!

Yeah I see that you have some cool ideas there. I also suggest having an introduction to each level with all the notes played from bottom to top, would serve as a dramatic intro and also let players know the tone of each row.

This is such a unique game! Really tests your ears. I thought I wasn't tone deaf but then I played this game. Maybe it's the stress of the spiders and ghost that's freaking me out a bit. :P

High score baybeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Fantastic job on this. The main mechanic is solid, and it's musical element makes it oh so much more satisfying to play. Are the levels randomly generated? If so, the level generations is super well done and kept me satisfied for quite a while. That said, I do agree AiriKarin. I think that the difficulty should scale a bit quicker, as the harder levels are much more satisfying, but take a bit to get to.

Developer(+1)

hey thanks! The levels are pretty random.. but I spent a long time tweaking the level generator so I'm glad you noticed.  I think I agree with you on the difficulty scaling... But for a game jam I think I'd rather err on the side of too easy.... But thanks again. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Oh for sure. Better too easy than way to hard!

This is probably my favorite game in the jam so far, like the others it took me a bit to understand the underlying mechanics but once I did I wanted to keep playing! Despite it's simplicity, the music was nice and never got too annoying even after a fairly long session. Well done!

Developer

thank you so much!!

It took me a bit to figure out how the game worked, but after I figured it out I enjoyed the base mechanic of pitch matching to unlock the next level. The music and graphics fit with each other very nicely.

The game's difficulty scaling seemed slow to me, so it felt repetitive by level 7. The AI of the spiders seemed to just run around randomly, which led to me largely ignoring them while finding notes.

Developer

thanks for playing!

I think I agree with you about the difficulty scaling... The music and patterns get much more interesting around level 10... But it does take a while to get there.

In the upper levels the spiders can be quite a bit peskier too... But the truth is that I had planned to add a few more difficult enemies and just ran out of time.

Thanks again!

This is great, lovely puzzle element to the pitch matching, and beautiful relaxing melodies. I did wish the spiders felt more perilous though, they weren't a challenge to blast.

Thumb up to this game. I like the learning curve of the pitch-row-mapping mechanic. In some way, I suggest prevent spiders from staying still when the player moves to make the spiders' movements more predictable.
