Neat story! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :)
Reading the comments, I apparently didn't managed to finish the game. I reached the composition part, but unable to find anything, I assumed it was a sandbox ending and just closed the game after playing a bit with the instruments.
Still, the idea is nice! The viuals and soundscapes are wonderful. And even if the puzzle did go beyond me, the composing part is really fun and satisfying on itself! It's a pretty great game. Congrats!

So, the ending compositions was pretty hard to figure out... I wasn't sure what I was doing at first... I did get both compositions but the lack of feedback when you get something wrong was a bit hard. Maybe even just the classic "hey, this is wrong or this many are wrong" would be helpful. Even if it's vague, as long as we get something...
Other than that, I really liked this game a lot. I liked the pixel huntish aspect because it wasn't too hard. I think you could do more gating, maybe an inventory shuffle system that unlocks new sounds on different scenes etc, just to give it more to do. But within the scope of the jam, really solid!

Is there a win condition? I tried messing with the composer until I got something that sounded all right but I wasn't sure if it was ended. The composition part could use a little work to make it clearer what the goal is. Does order matter? Its hard for me to tell what is playing the music and what is "hinted" for what is needed. Maybe we should only hear what we placed when we click compose which starts the timer over or maybe clicking on an object plays it's melody and silences everything else. Either way liked the concept.
Love the art, and the music is quite nice too. Really more of an experience than a game, and I mean that as a compliment. Didn't really understand what I was supposed to be doing with the composing part and gave up (assuming that wasn't just the end of the game), but overall an enjoyable experience.
What a lovely game! The pace is much slower than some in the game jam but the concept, atmosphere, and gameplay were charming!
I loved this, maybe my favourite of the comp! Such attention to detail. I found it very tricky trying to fathom how the composition part worked though.
Did you actually get a win condition? If so what was it? I'd like to see/hear the finished product as intended.
I didn't. I got to something that sounded right to me, and figured either a) the game was purposely left open-ended, or b) I'd explored enough, and if there was a win condition in there somewhere I didn't feel inclined to keep chasing it.
