Hi everybody, this is my first game jam and my first time developing any sort of real game. I've been a professional illustrator for many years now and pixel art's become my main medium of choice lately, and making sprites for other people's games put a bug in my behind to actually try and develop something all by myself. Of course I have grandiose ideas for games that would take years of development, but before I bite more than I can chew I wanna try my hand at a simple one stage beat'em up for this jam, so please follow along my journey to make my game "KILL! KILL! KILL!"

As you can tell by the title I'm totally ignoring the heal theme lol, in fact I've been playing around with this idea for a couple of weeks, since I decided to join the jam, and it's been really hard for me to not just start really working on it before the start time, so I've been sketching up characters and coming up with story ideas.

some of the pre jam sketches I made before the start date to figure out the animations I want and the scope of the stage.

The idea of the game is you play as a yet unnamed (maybe you can help me with that) Serial Killer clown that's been arrested and is now breaking out of jail, beating up and killing inmates and cops with exaggerated cartoon violence. My goal for the jam is just this one stage, the jail, with an executioner type final boss. The protagonist is inspired by classic slasher villains like Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, walking slowly and dishing out gory deaths to the enemies, but with a cartoony clown twits, like having his fist turn gigantic when he punches like in battletoads. If I do continue working on this after the jam's finished I would like to implement other playable characters, stages, pickable weapons, super attacks etc. but my goal for the jam is just to have the characters walking and punching and I'll be happy with that.

If you're reading this and have any tips, critiques or questions I'm all ears! Thank you for reading all this rambling, I'll be back when I have more to show.
