This is a quote from their list of rules regarding the jam/jam submissions.

  • In fairness to your fellow jammers (and other jams!), you may only submit your game to My First Game Jam.

I'm not a judge but, even if you don't plan to enter your submission into another game jam, I'd wait to upload your game anywhere else until the jam ends to avoid being disqualified.

Jam Host

gx.games is a website for hosting games, not software, but as corvus said, it's recommended you wait until after the game jam if you're going to submit it to another platform. after the jam, you can do whatever you want with your game!

i think that they may want to submit there game to gx games because it the only way for others to play your game if you are using free game maker 2

yeah that’s exactly why

I think there's confusion on how exactly contestants submit their final game.

Would any judges or reviewers be able to view the source code to your game on gx.games? That may affect your eligibility but it's not clearly specified so maybe it's something we will get more clarity on when the jam starts.

Can you clarify the confusion? There's no judging or reviewers for this jam. The rule is mainly to ensure submissions can run as standalone games, but with a few exceptions for interpreters (python, Inform 7 I believe).

Right, I was just using judges and reviewers loosely to refer to the people who will ensure the submissions follow the rules, not necessarily that they would be rating submissions or giving awards like "Best X."

My point is, for a participant who wishes to submit their game before the deadline, how exactly? In what medium? Do you want a compressed .zip folder of all the game files? Can we use a game hosting site like gx.games and just submit a link?

From the rules:

  • You may use any game engine/framework/language to make your game and build for any platform you like, including mobile. For mobile, only APKs can be distributed on itch.io.
  • We do not accept submissions that require external games or software to run such as Roblox. Games that require interpreters (python, some interactive fiction languages, etc.) are allowed.

We don't have guidelines on what is required to be uploaded for a submission, but .zip files with game files is usually best for most cases. The game however must be hosted on itch.io (whether web or upload), not an external site to cut down on malicious links.

As long as your final submission to this jam is able to play as a standalone game, that's fine.
