[Devlog] Fighting Fantasy on your screen! (text-based RPG)

Ever since I was a kid I've enjoyed reading Gamebooks (for example the Lonewolf series). As I grew older though, I traded my pen and paper RPGs for the computer versions we all know so well. In this jam, I'd like to try and come back to those evenings I would spend crawling through sewers and fighting various monsters with just a book, a pencil and some dice.

So, what is it that I am making exactly?  The game will be a dungeon crawling monster-slashing game that can be summarised into two game states:

  1.  Walking through dungeon rooms
  2. Fighting monsters

(more states may appear in the future, such as shopping)

As of now, the game's most core mechanics of walking, combat and game state transitions are done (with a few bugs that need ironing out) and I am starting work on design - both story and visual - focus on the word start, hence why I am currently showing no visuals, but that will change soon (hopefully)!

If I manage to create textures and a story that are to my liking, I will try to create an inventory system, items (both usable, like weapons and potions, and story related, like rope, or a piece of paper containing a secret code) and give the player some more variation and engagement this way.

I am very interested on this.
