Game's take on the theme
This is a mixture between a beat em up and megaman games. The main character is a yakuza that has to go fight in the streets of Neo-Tokyo, and has to use special Sunglasses to look for invisible enemies trying to take down the HQ of his yakuza group.

Game's take on the special object
You have 3 different Sunglasses for different enemies. You have to change them constantly so no enemies get to their target.

I really like the colors and the gameplay! Any game that reminds me of Megaman is a great game in my book

Developer

Thanks!, Megaman is a huge inspiration for me, specially MMZ, and because of that, Gunvolt too. That's why I'll continue this game.

I appreciate how the game incorporates the theme and special object as its main focus, rather than just as an afterthought. However, the controls feel a bit awkward. On the bright side(?), I did notice that there is a config menu that hasn't been implemented yet, which I assume will be where the binding menu would be if you have more time to polish the game.

I love your work on theme and special object, also you really took your time thinking about lore and I appreciate it! Fun to play some minor tweeks but overall really good game!

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it!, I did a lot of design (maybe too much for a jam lol) while also learning unity, I show some initial designs in the menu background. There's a LOT of tweeks I have to make. So Thanks for the feedback!

Yes that’s the catch with the jams sometimes you just have to much fun working on ideas and design and before you know it you have half of time left to actually make a game :D Keep up the good work you are doing great!

Really good take on the theme and object- this was rally a street fight, and glasses were prominently featured.

Graphics wise I liked the large hero silhouette the most- really sold the "I'm a baddass yakuza boss with hi-tech glasses". The rest of the graphics were all right, but the enemy design didn't really seemed "yakuza gang war" to me (I know, it's sci-fi neo-tokyo, but flying skulls were kind of strange).

Gameplay wise, there were two main problems.

1. Player had little incentive to move around the level, since all the enemies went to you.

2. Controls to change the glasses were a bit weird (why not just swap left with q and right with e). Because of that I sometimes just ran around, and if I wit something- only then swapped glasses to see it.

All in all- pretty good game, that needs some polish.

Agree, I want to polish it, since I had to cut many things out of the initial design/idea to have a playable game.

It was supposed to have stages, and get the sunglasses after completing them. Also the ability to combine glasses at some point, I wanted glasses to use energy when using them, so you couldn't abuse them, but I'm still thinking on it. And when combining the three, you get these golden glasses and see all the enemies but with lower alpha, lets say 30%, and some power-up as well (that's why the weird buttons).

Enemies were added the last day of the jam hahah,  so I only had time to tune it to be somewhat challenging and not impossible to win.

So thanks for your feedback! Glad you liked the protagonist design.

Omg it's awesome you chose a yakuza route with the theme. We were considering a similar narrative too! I really enjoyed the gameplay, graphics and the vibe. Well done!

Developer

Thanks!, yeah the yakuza theme helped me reduce all the possible street fight ideas I thought initially. I'm glad you liked it :)
