Jam Host

I am very impressed with how much content you got done in a 72 hour game game!  A building game, with day and night, different weapons and enemies.   Bravo!   My only suggestion is to make the zombies more of a threat, by letting them jump.   When I played it the would get stuck on the first block they ran into so they were easy to kill.  I'm really impressed!  Great job!

Developer

Yes we have fixed that. Our original thought process behind that was they would eventually build up so much that they would create like an ocean of zombies coming for you. And those zombies stuck would act as a bridge for other zombies to jump on and get over. But a lot of people said they didn't like it and it felt slow that way. So thank you for the feed back!

Jam Host

Awesome!  I'm going to down load the latest build and try it now!

Developer

Oh im sorry I havent actually exported the latest build yet...havent really had enough time. I didnt think it would influence the ratings that much since they are ending today but I will eventually get that up. :)

One of my favorites so far haha. The progression was really fun for me! Rather than progressing mechanically, I felt like each night I learned something new about the zombie behavior to exploit in my next day's build. It was fun trying out different designs, especially trying to design differently based on each gun. My initial designs I tried to make a base to hide in but was quickly overwhelmed and had to kite them. Then I tried a tower but again they were able to jump up so I had to jump off and run away. Then I tried pitfalls to take them out with the shotgun. Finally I moved on to getting them to line up a certain way so I could take on waves with the sniper. Even as the game is, I could see myself spending a long time on this (I had to tell myself to stop so I could get back to rating all the games)

Developer

Man thats awesome! I am glad you had so much fun. We will probably continue to work on this game to get the zombies to perform correctly and add much more creatures at night and things to craft.

Lovely graphics, neat game! I included it in my Open Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Developer

That was a really cool video. Thanks for making it. It was awesome seeing someones reaction to our game. :D

Looks decent enough and at the start just figuring out the game and gathering resources was fun, but ultimately the progression was too slow for me to continue playing past day 5 or so. I would probably have had to quit anyway, since the game started lagging a bit after I used all of my resources to build a roof that covered pretty much the entire play area. The fact that the zombies were stuck in place pretty much all the time didn't help either. I also felt like only the last weapon was even worth using.

Encountered a few minor bugs too, as well as a major bug which prevented me from building anything but floor tiles:

  • For starters the menu font was almost unreadable due to how small it was (I'm using a 11.6" screen with a resolution of 1366x768).
  • When mining a block while hugging it, it would mine the block behind it.
  • When shooting the laser and moving the mouse around the existing laser pieces would also turn.
  • Also for some reason when building stuff I could only choose the first option (a floor tile?). My console was spammed with messages like this when the game was running: "Grid 5, index out of bounds writing [14,4] - size is [1,4]", maybe that has to do with the issue?

Thats strange that you can only build floor tiles. Are you running this on linux? That might cause some problems. Ill look into the messages that were getting spammed to your console. Thanks for the feed back!

Yeah, running on Arch Linux (which probably is not officially supported by YoYoGames :( ). Just tried it again and the problem persists. Looks like the error message might not be relevant though, as it changes depending on the position of the mouse. It probably indicates something related to the material selection part, which works fine (although there's a weird offset in the actual mouse position and the mouse position in game when I'm not running it in fullscreen).

I guess Game Maker Studio 2 just doesn't understand how the mouse wheel works on Linux. If you can't figure out a solution you could always use the keyboard for selecting what to build.

Developer

Thank you for the suggestion. We will definetly take everything you say into account. One thing that we have fixed is the zombies. We have improved their ai so they do not get stuck all the time and will probably not slow down the game too much as more zombies spawn. One thing that is supposed to happen is that zombies get stuck when they run into walls so that the other zombies can climb on top of them so eventually it would make a bridge to the player. Also the fact that you can build a wall all the way across the top of the map and no zombies can get you will be fixed as well. Thank you for all your feed back we will use it to improve this game.

Yeah, I actually noticed that a few zombies were able to get to me using their fallen comrades as stepping stones, which was a really cool touch (and reminded me of the video below).

Thats what we were going for :D

Hi, the game looks really cool from the screenshots, but where is the mac version? I only see a windows and linux?

Developer

I will be exporting the game to macOs later tonight once we fix a few bugs.

Submitted

Ok, thanks I'll play it then!

Developer

Just finished uploading the macOS version. Not sure if it is fully optimized. So it might run slow on your computer. Let me know how it goes!

When I try to open the zip, I get an error

"Unable to expand "Luna_Interficere_MacOS.zip" into "Downloads". (Error 2 - No such file or directory.)"

This might just be client side, thanks for trying though!

Developer

Go to your terminal then type Unzip then drag the zipped file into the terminal. It should unzip it and leave the file in your users folder. I had this problem on my macbook with other zipped files before.

Yay! It's unzipped... but when I try to open it I get "The application “Luna_Interficere” can’t be opened." Thanks for trying to help, but I don't know if it's worth it anymore :(

Developer(+1)

Sorry about that. Mac is a very hard thing to export on. Its not very supported by gamemaker.
