There was some confusion about what was meant by the word 'asset' in Rule #2, so I have updated the rules to clarify things.
Rule #2 now reads as follows:
2) You MUST use art from a minimum of 6 different works on OpenGameArt.org .
You can use other assets as well, so long as you have the rights/permissions to use. If you are unable to find anything suitable for your project on OGA, you can create your own assets, but you must upload them to OGA website BEFORE the end of the jam for them to be considered as part of the 6 asset rule. By doing so you are also contributing to a great community, and we would love to see it.
The point being clarified is whether it is ok to you use less than 6 works, if you are using 6 different 'assets' from those works.
Under the previous wording, this point was a bit ambiguous, but hopefully the clarification makes it clear that this would NOT satisfy the requirements of Jam Rule #2.
For example, a game might use 6 different images (sprites, tiles, etc) from a single work on OpenGameArt.org. However, this would only count as using 1 work from OpenGameArt.org and would NOT be enough to satisfy Jam Rule #2.
