Good tale, though the Battle Brothers seem like lying backstabbers in the end. Not that I have any illusions of them as 'good guys' in the first place. Leaves some questions to chew over in a reader's mind though, which is probably a good thing.
Maybe I'm missing something, but this doesn't feel like a deal, it feels like a trick. That could work for other themes, but for "unlikely allies" there's too much betrayal in my mind.
Isn’t every deal that’s too good to be true a trick? :) What I wanted to show was “unlikely allies” not based on circumstance, but rather on mutual risk.
