Description
The game’s concept revolves around hiking on trails and encountering cryptids, and uses sort of an ambiant, dream-pop esque soundtrack. I composed a day version and night version theme of a hiking trail. I mixed in acoustic instruments in the night version to give a more “natural” feel to it, as opposed to the day version which is primarily composed of electronic instruments to represent a more human/artificial feel. Both pieces use the same form.
I was able to squeeze in one more song, Stale Air, though it is pretty short. The ostinato is inspired by yume nikki’s ambiance, and was made to help establish the ominous tone the game would lean more into.
I put together my music in Cubase and used VSTs from Spitfire Labs and Halion Sonic SE.
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
The picture gave me dreamy vibes, so I thought making my soundtrack based on sounds like the wurli would fit with the dreaminess and also the retro vibe that the pixel art has. The night theme also inspired me to create day and night versions of a song.
