Description
This ost uses a lot of more cinematic/orchestral elements.
Some of the tracks are more inspired by Jazz, Funk, Electronic music and more...

I used Garageband (and loops from it's royalty free library) for writing and producing, on top of Musecore 3 (for writing) and some real-life recordings of instruments.

This game would be a sidescrolling, pixel-art platformer, similar to Celeste.

This submission's story is about a girl who gets sucked into a digital world inside the internet (l think like maplestory, but I've never played it). At the beginning she's really happy and excited about this new world, but throughout the game she realizes how much she misses home, and searches for the person who sucked her into this world.

I tried to incorporate 3 main leitmotifs into this ost : The world motif, which is used to represent the environments in which this game would take place,
The character motif, which is used to represent this game's nameless protagonist, and her drive to adventure and to succeed.
And lastly the main game motif, which is also in a way the nostalgia motif. It's used to represent the main plot points of the story.

Titled : This would serve as the game's title screen. It's also the first appearance of the world motif, which is the chord progression this track is based on - I I7 II v. This motif is based on the Lydian Dominant scale, which appears in the harmonic series. I thought it's connection to nature would be a fun way to evoke this world, even if it's not a natural place.

Just a girl : This is the track that introduces the main character and her main motif. Her motif is in Lydian, and (imo) in a cute way, switches to a bar of 5/4 for the second bar of her 'melody loop'.
This track's clarinet was recorded by a close friend of mine, but due to time management issues, got recorded in a pretty bad quality. Either way I'm very grateful for her contribution to this project of mine :)
Finally, at the end of the track, there's a sneak peak at the game's main motif.

Computering... : This is the first "level track". It would be sort of a tutorial, and it would show the character going into the game through the internet. This track uses a pretty obvious Chromatic Mediant, which is a writing technique I personally love. There's a tiny appearance of the character motif. This track's melody is very much inspired from Celeste, and the overall production is inspired by some of Nintendo's menu themes.

Don't go phishing! : This is track is supposed to be for the level which is "represented" in the picture theme for the jam. The ending part is a use of the world motif. (I'd like to add that I played this track for my mom, who's got no experience with video games, and asked her what type of environment this would be for, and she immediately said "a water area", so I'm pretty proud of that haha).

If I got a wish... : This track fully introduces the main theme. The game's main motif is in B Phrygian, and is usually played on this very melancholic synth. Our protagonist finally realizes that although she's having a lot of fun in this new world, she really misses home, and she wants to find her way back. Also, this track introduces - Me! The first track I recorded Trumpet for. I've been wanting to use trumpet in these jams for a long time now, so I'm happy to finally be able to. I didn't have a proper way to record and mix the recordings, so their not of the greatest quality, but I tried. This track is very much inspired by Celeste's OST again.

The Funkwork Network : This is a pretty funky track (If I do say so myself) and is used to represent the game's big-city level. By this point the protagonist is looking for the person who trapped her in this world. This track is heavily inspired by Stevie Wonder and songs like I Wish and Sir Duke. It features me playing trumpet again, and an improvised solo towards the end.

Ur g0nNa L05e tH1s : By the end of the game, our protagonist is able to figure out who trapped her in the game - a vicious hacker trying to flex his skills. As a "final" show of power, the hacker takes over the entire game and starts to destroy the game's world. The track features a ton of callbacks to previous tracks, to represent the world getting corrupted. Towards the end of the track, the rapper reached the Title screen of the game. He starts to mash different parts of the game's world together, and all seems lost. The trumpet fanfare at the end of the track (played by me :)) is representing the main character's drive to win.
This track is in 9/4 (4/4+5/4 or sometimes the other way around), and is highly chromatic (with a minor sound), while still having the tonic of Bb.
This track's structure (and part in the story) is heavily inspired by Undertale's Omega Flowey boss fight.

At the end of the game, the main character is able to defeat the hacker and get back to the real world, closing our adventure.

Message from the artist
I hope like this! These jams really help me creatively and mentally, on top of being straight up really fun, so I'm always excited when another one comes around.
Also, sorry I wrote so much, I had a lot to say haha.

How does it fit the theme?
The name inspired the game's plot, and the picture theme directly inspired one of the tracks.

Super diverse OST! Love the quaint, orchestral tracks and the atmospheric electronic stuff and the funk track! It all came together very well and always gotta love live recordings when they happen, especially with wind instruments. Very expertly composed too, def can tell there is a strong background in music theory with the odd time signatures and chord progressions. Awesome job!

Developer

Thank you so much! I do indulge in theory a lot (maybe a bit too much haha), and I'm glad it's noticeable in my music too!

Love the atmosphere here; a good amount of variety while keeping a pretty consistent and cohesive sound throughout. I can definitely hear the Celeste influence, hehe. Your trumpet doesn't sound bad at all! I thought the trumpet was going to be a one and done thing for "If I Got A Wish..." oh but how foolish I was. I quickly realized that this whole jam was actually just an excuse for you to live out your DEPRAVED trumpet playing fantasies.

You thought you were being clever by waiting until halfway through the OST to introduce the fabled yellow copper, but I see right through your ruse. Being a talented music theorist and composer just wasn't enough for you, was it? No, after finishing the entire OST for this week-long jam with six days remaining, you longed for more fulfilling ways to express yourself. Searching for other outlets, you quickly succumbed to the brazen boldness of brass, and now you seek to infect countless others with your budding funkiness. I envy that about you, and I'm super happy that you are obviously living your best life.

Nice OST btw

Oh my god, this has got to be the funniest comment I've gotten about anything I ever made (how could you see through my ultimate master plan?????)!

Thank you so, so much for your many compliments! Right now I'm going to work on becoming the exact person you described in this comment.

Oh... It's time for the soundtrack, which I've been wanting to listen to for a long time. And I finally got to him!

Titled - A good introduction with a sense of WATER

Just A Girl - Hooray! Time for something cute! ((Wow, is this a real clarinet? Cool!)

Computing... - HELP ME, THEY WANT TO PROGRAM ME

Don't Go Phishing! - So, first of all: It really sounds like an underwater world. Secondly: I'm proud of you now too).
 If I Got A Wish... - beautiful longing :_)

The Funkwork Network   - TIME FOR JAZZ (and funk too, huh)

Ur g0nNa L05e tH1s - Good... I feel a little uncomfortable)

Overall, I liked the idea and the variety of genres and styles! Cool!

P.S. You have a great cover art, huh)

Developer

Thank you for all of your compliments! I'm really happy to hear you wanted to listen to this ost so much!

And the cover art is something I'm pretty proud of. I don't draw too much anymore, and I especially don't do pixelart almost at all, so when I did this little drawing and it came out pretty cute I was really happy with myself :)

Thank you so much!!
