  • Super clever and unique experience! I really enjoyed the use of a game menu to solve the puzzles. Everything ran smoothly. Unfortunately, there wasn't much to the theme in the game. Otherwise, this is an excellent game.
  • while the shadow and alchemy themes are liberaly used here, I'd say the game design and how fun it was got this back on track for a great rating.

Tell us about your game!
This Menutroid-Brainia is your feverdream. Be haunted by your past, find love and summon extraplanar Demons.

Use your Game Main Menu Literacy to solve puzzles and get lost in trying to be able to start saving the world.

-------

In a very mundane Scenario (AAA Game Menu that needs endless Tweaking) the rules are not as expected. The menu is influenced by your fictional day. Also some nightmares might leave you unsettled.

Extra Notes
This game has elements that may require you to have trust in the stability of the game.
If you have issues with a puzzle consider looking into the GDD for a Solution.

Known Softlock: Answer the old man in the Well the correct answer more than once and you will no longer be able to win the game.

The game was pretty clever. I hope the judges don't give up on it too quickly. That said, at one point the game froze for me and I couldn't continue. Rough around the edges, but charming and interesting.

Developer

Happy to hear :)

Can you remember the circumstances the game frooze? I would like to fix that.

Submitted

Yes. I was confused about the Memories section, and each time I captured a memory with Ctrl + C, it took longer and longer until eventually it took so long it froze.

I thought I had to screenshot the close button and paste it and then click the image of the close button, but that wasn't working, and before I could figure it all out, the game was just too laggy.

Developer

Yeah, that mechanic is Ressource intense. I got stuck in intelligently copying the scene, so I shouted "Game Jam!" And copied the entire scene each time instead. Will fix that in a quiet minute.

I also made a metroid-brainia (without the menu part), I'm gonna have to check this out when I have more time, looks really clever!

I did a speedrun of this game https://youtu.be/HLPOFs3MEj8

Developer

Crazy idea. I love it :3

Theoretically you should be able to change the language in the key bindings dialog to shave of some extra seconds.

The tech worked, I managed to shave off about 12.5 seconds in my newest run https://youtu.be/aVL62FqO0dc

Nice :D

I note the action button not falling down to my bug list

This was well thought out. My programming brain is trying to figure out how you do the save memories mechanic.

I did have to use the GDD for a hint around half way through but was able to figure out the rest playing along with someone else.

There are some great elements incorporated to the puzzles and felt truly unique.

I am not sure if the changing of letters was supposed to be a mechanic but I can read anything or do anything but guess what things do. U had a good start with the dialog but as soon as it showed the game u lost me completely sorry.

Also like many others on here "Do Not Make It Exclusively FullScreen!" Its not okay to force people to play a game on full screen or the spirit of an Webgl game.

Developer

Thanks for playing.

The letter changes are intentional and represent the first puzzle of the game.

Is it supposed to change so quickly but ?

Developer

Yes. As the game name "Iliterate" suggests there are portions of the game where you can't read.

This puzzle is inspired by the situation where your friends secretly change the language of your cell phone (and the deep dream fear of suddenly unlearning common skills)

This might not be a good design or a good puzzle. Im still learning to do that. But it is intended.
