  • Wonderful execution of hand drawn art/animation and integrating it with other VFX. The area lighting of the player character near the fence looked really good! Great demo level composition. Attack animations were fun and looked great. However the demo only has simple combat included, nothing about the grafting of enemy body parts as upgrades as described in the GDD. And combat was very easy to cheese with mashing space bar. Was able to queue/stack enough attack commands to insta kill the boss reliably.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
YES I CHECKED ON INCOGNITO D:::

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Little beat em up style game with unhinged creepy hand drawn art

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
We initially wanted the player to gather limbs from ennemies and graft them on themselves as the game progressed. You are the weapon translated to I'll steal your organs and use you as a weapon. Turns out after learning a whole lot... we only had time for one level, art and basic combat mechanics

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
the moon, it watches.

Love the artstyle!

The game is beautiful, I love the hand drawn art and the moody lighting. Unfortunately, I had a really hard time aiming, that would be my main critique (could just be a me problem though). Overall you did a great job here!

Thanks for the feedback :) We were originally planning to go with a basic pixel art look and I looked at my buddy's sketches and they were low-key nicer looking than what we could've done in pixel art. Really happy with how they looked with spooky lightning.
If we take this further I'll definitely take some time to polish the combat/aiming.
There's also glitches in the attack animations that stand out

I always love a 2.5D game, and this one is beautiful, I just wish there was more content / features. From a polish perspective, you definitely struggle with the OG Paper Mario issue of it can be hard to line up with other things on the screen, so maybe make hitboxes a bit more forgiving

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback :) My teammate really outdid himself on the handrawn sprites.

I'll look into taking this further and developing this into more of a complete game.
Right now we have a single demo boss fight as a framework for other levels.
We'd like to polish it more and add levels/progression/story.
