  • Art direction was well done. Loved the parallaxing background. Good distinct player character components and weapons. Everything felt like it matched and fit. Music fit well, could easily see this being expanded for combat music and other elements well based on the track in the demo. Due to alloted playtime. Not able to earn enough money for upgrades except the green player body. Reward progression may need tuning in light of that. The distances between the player body, spinning weapons and the enemies felt wrong. too close of a shave repeatedly resulting in many early non-scoring deaths. Tried improving this with controller use, but it was treated as a digital input with the analog stick. No inbetween or granular movement to be found, felt clunky most of the time. Menu's all worked as expected. GDD was on the leaner side missing elements and expected detail, mainly the development timeline. This is a great start, just needs tuning to really shine!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
yes

Summarise your game!
The player controls a vehicle with a spinning turret. The turret can be outfitted with melee and/or ranged equipment. Currency is gained by defeating enemies and can be spent on new equipment. The controls are just clicking buttons and using wasd to move the player.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The game fits the theme because the player is basically a spinning vehicle of destruction. Which is kind of a weapon.

The upgrade and building mechanics here are great but could do with a tutorial as I didn't get it straight away. It also took a while to get enough money for upgrades. I  think the design and art for the background is really cool aswell!

Thank you for the feedback! And yes, it definitely needs a tutorial! I got one made but just didn't manage to get it in in time.

I’d like to say a few things I really enjoyed - first of all, the parallax effect in the background. It adds a great sense of depth to the scene, which is really really cool. I also like the color palette of the background, though I think it would be good to maintain consistency throughout the game. For example, it might help to adjust the font color in the menu to match it. Additionally, I believe that changing the font to something more stylized could be a small but impactful improvement.

As for the game mechanics, I noticed a few things that could improve the experience. When the player dies, all equipped gear is unequipped, and it needs to be re-equipped each time.  It would be great if the gear progress was saved like with the in-game currency. I also wasn’t able to discover all the enemy types (there are at least three) but it would be helpful to see their HP or an indicator of how much more damage is needed to defeat them. Lastly, clicking on a piece of equipment instantly buys it without showing a description first. It would be nice to be able to read the description before buying.

Overall, I think the game has the potential to become a really fun and engaging experience if development continues! :)

Thank you for the feedback! I will definitely consider these things!

Nice concept, so many options for customization! (Once you get the money that is)

Thank you!

It took me a few times to figure out the weapon stuff but after that it was quite fun! I like the visuals, they are clear and satisfying. At some point I did get some stutters (which I have not had yet in other games) and also the sound settings seem broken, the sound can never be set to 0, not even very low for that part. Overall, good job!

Yeah, I probably should have just left out the volume control lol. The volume not dropping to zero was because of how the audio system would handle tracks at 0% volume. The volume also resets on every reload, which isn't very useful, lol. I have found fixes for these, but alas, I can't update the game till after the jam. But thank you for the feedback, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Cool looking game and fun movement system! The movement trail was quite satisfying. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to equip a weapon and just ended up dying to the enemies each time :(

Developer

Sorry about that :( I was meaning to add a help screen to explain that. I can't upload an updated version until the jam is over, but I did update the game description to explain it. Thank you for the feedback!
