  • Moribund Drive was a very fun, casual gaming experience. With the addition of a musical score and sound effects, a win condition, and / or level-based increases in difficulty, I could imagine spending 30-40 minutes spamming out a few rounds of this. The scrap repair mechanic, zombie destruction, and player movement upkeep aspects of the game were all huge wins. One small complaint I have is that when zombies surround your car there is no way to stop the game-over screen from happening. Adding just one ability, like a short range chain saw swipe, would help get players out of situations like this and allow for greater numbers of mobs to be spawned. Further, unlockable vehicles would also be a fantastic way to improve the replay-ability of Moribund Drive. Thank you very much for this submission to Pirate Software Game Jam 16.

Yes

Summarise your game!
Moribund Drive is a 2D top-down driving game where you survive against the zombie horde in a scrap car while repairing with scraps you collect on the road.
Repair is done by a minigame using arrow keys, similar to Helldivers series' stratagem system.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
Weapon can come in many different forms, and could be the embodiment of the whole weapon. In this case, the car the player drives in. Fighting endless zombies.
Weapon can also be in the form of a skill, in this case, the driver is also a car mechanic. Together, they are one self-sufficient weapon.

This is our first project using godot engine, so instead of choosing wild theme interpretations we had during brainstorm. We decided to settle on something a bit more straightforward.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
This project is the first time for us to develop a game using composition instead of the traditional hierarchy way. So the code might unoptimized for this simple looking game.

Got a score of 736. Hope it's good. I really like this game. Haven't see a driving game this jam yet, and I am happy to see one! And the repair mechanics is really the icing on the cake, easy to understand, but really hard to do quickly when you are also driving and avoiding buildings. Love that!

For some criticism I'd say zooming out and in really makes people dizzy, and I think avoiding drastic change in zooms would be great. Also, please add some sound. The game will surely be a lot fun with some high octane music and car sounds!

Anyway, nice job and keep up the good work!

Hey this is pretty nifty. The repair mechanic is quite unique. I thought the driving mechanics were really solid, but wondered if the zoom in when you're turning could be turned down a little bit. Great work for a first project with Godot!
