  • GDD The GDD was perfect. I have no way to improve it. Congratulations! Gameplay Simple exploration game, lots of talking and gathering information about the mysterious island. I found the journal to be very clever. I played the game twice, and the pages indeed get mixed up. Felt like I was filling a mystery scrapbook. And the sudden change in gameplay when I progressed caught me by surprise. At first I thought I was getting ragged because of the sanity, but then the change happened. I went to talk to an elder and ended up choosing violence. It was sudden and enjoyable. The writing was very clever. From the way the lore is exposed to the reasons you can't climb the hotel or stay there. And why there's a repeat of the same painting. Art Very good ambiance. It made me feel like the start of a novel. The lone investigator disembarks at a strange island. Great setting, and very mysterious. The 2D arts for the journal are amazing, and the creepy totems and corpses got me a bit on edge. Sound design Great BGM; it was a pleasant surprise when it changed with the biome. Very well done. Last thoughts Cool concept. I never thought I would see a Lovecraft-themed game in 2D like that. It proves that what makes a game like this good is the ambiance and the story. Great job, team.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Take control of a detective to explore a dark fantasy world, utilizing your communication skills to investigate the people around you. The island boasts many secrets from start to end. Manage your sanity, explore, write in your journal, interview the townsfolk, and enjoy as the mystery unravels!

As your investigation progresses, you may notice that a transformation progresses as well. You came to the island as a detective, but if you leave, it may be as a LIVING WEAPON.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
Throughout the game, exposure to the island affects your sanity and you slowly transform into a monster. When this phenomenon was discovered by the government, long before you arrived, they could not help themselves but try to harness this process. You are tasked with investigating a missing persons case, but you are forced into becoming a weapon. Do you become a guardian of the native people or will you become a mass murdering machine? Either way, in the end you become a biological weapon, but you choose if you truly are a monster.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
All pixel art was made 100% original by us, Also, I think the journal being dynamic and pages being added in the order that they are found is a pretty cool mechanic.

Impeccable vibes! I can really see  a lot of effort went into this. The mood and the art are perfect for the game. I'm not sure if I messed up but I got a to be continued screen instead of a real "ending". I really enjoyed it though, and played for longer than I realized. My only critique would be the slow movement. I would have loved a sprint button, or just a slightly faster base movement. Otherwise, it's a great game, good job!
