Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous.

  • While reading through your GDD, it felt crowded. Everything was laid out nicely, but there was very little room to "rest" your eyes between sections. What was in those sections was very well done though! I'm very excited to see you finish more of the story elements you wrote about. Playing the game as is, however, felt aimless. I could not find an end-scenario, like letting too many goblins reach the bottom or reaching a certain score. The goblins would just stay there until I attacked again, and when they died, more just came to fill their place. I rather enjoyed the music, though the sound effect for the sword when you activate it was high pitched/loud, and was a tad painful before adjusting my volume. Everything together has a lot of potential and I hope you will continue to work on implementing more of what you had planned!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
The game is played with the mouse and left click. Clicking the left mouse button enables you to attack but drains your energy in the top left corner. Different enemies can only be attacked from certain directions depending on their armor.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The game has you controlling a flying sword who is sick of monsters and goblins coming after it.

This was our very first game and we had many more ideas we wanted to implement,

We plan to continue working on it after this jam has concluded. We intend to add a more fleshed out intro story as well as refining sound effects, combat, and adding in a lose condition.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
I'd personally be interested in feedback on programming. But we're all new and open to feedback!

None of us have ever created something to this scale before and we've had a ton of fun!

cool concept! I was a little confused on how to kill some of the goblins but its probably a skill issue on my behalf haha

Keep it up!

I'm definitely not done working on that. 😅 If it's not immediately clear then I need to convey that better. Plus it's still pretty janky, but:

If a Goblin has a shield or armor then you can't attack it from that specific angle. So a goblin with a shield on the right side can't be killed by mousing over it from the right, but can be killed from other directions provided that you have energy.

That's how it's *supposed* to work, but I'm not totally happy with the direction detection in this build.

Thanks for the feedback and I appreciate you taking time to leave a comment!
