I wasn't sure how to turn the camera (spacebar seemed to do something but then crashed the game) and advancing to a later epoch didn't work for me. You captured the look and feel of a Age of Empires-like RTS pretty well though and generally the stuff that is there is pretty impressive. I just fear the project was a bit overscoped for a < 1 month game jam. Good job coming this far regardless!
Spacebar is supposed to be something that randomizes the terrain. I didnt have any issues with it until just recently. I am still tryin to figure out how to fix it. The epoch thing is strangely broken, but I will try and fix it some more for the later update. Do you know if I am allowed to post a newer version of the game? I have made many new additions to it that improve gameplay.
I am not actually participating in the jam, but I'm 99% sure that past the dealine any edits should be specifically marked as "post jam edit" and are not longer part of the game jam.
Okay then, I am going to make some changes soon and mark them as such.
Just be sure to keep the original file with the version you uploaded for the game jam up and unchanged.
Ok then, I might add a revision later tonight. I also might provide an update tool so that the player doesnt have to download it directly from the site every time.
Also, thank you!
The n key finds a path from one point to the other using the A* pathfinding algorithm.
To turn the camera, you press WASD, but to actually move it, you use the arrow keys.
To build a town center, you have to send citizens to collect gold, stone, and wood. You have to have at least 500 gold, 250 wood, and 200 stone. Then, you have to click on a citizen and place it wherever.
To move up an epoch, the same resources are needed, but you have to click on a town center to move up an epoch.
Important controls:
I was made aware by many that the start button does not work. You have to click "J" key to use the mouse. There was a feature that was taken out which was intended on enabling the mouse. I forgot to reimplement that, and instead I had created a key for enabling the mouse earlier.
