It's impressive that you wrote your own engine in the span of the game jam. For Chain Reaction itself, the use of procedural generation is interesting, especially for the music. Unfortunately, it ended up making the final game too luck-based; I was able to get close to 80% of the orbs destroyed sometimes, but other times, I'd get under 20%. A game based around this concept, but with pre-made levels and other gimmicks added, could be fun, and I'd encourage you to keep going with it. I don't know too much about the Atari 7800, but aside from a few of the transparency effects, this feels like an Atari game. Finally, the Minesweeper and Snooker games were nice extras to demonstrate the capabilities of your engine.

Very cool that you wrote your own engine in the span of the jam. Well done :)

Three games in one is pretty impressive for such a short jam time! All the games play quite nicely. I know next to nothing about the Atari 7800, but these definitely seem within the limitations of the console, though I do think the mouse control takes away from the authentic retro feel for me. While buttons may have made the controls a bit more clumsy, they also would have made it feel more authentic. I do unfortunately think the games are a bit too simple and unoriginal, it would be nice to see some new and unique ideas at play, but great job in what you've accomplished here.

Hello xenological. I agree with you. I made 3 little casual games without anything really innovative in their gameplay. At first I did something using a Low Level 2d GameEngine without any dependencies in pure C++. Usually I develop my projects under Unity (take a look at my dashboard) which is more interesting, but for the RetroGrade Jam, I said to myself that it could be interesting to create a vintage engine like 40 years ago. Technically I am proud of what I did, but it's true - the games are not relevant. I saw this event like a Code jam. Thank you for your feedback ++

Oh wow, I totally didn’t realize you coded the engine from scratch. That’s extremely impressive!
