From a technical perspective, I am honestly impressed by the graphics. Especially drawing multiline strings properly, adjusting the spaces based on font size, in Swing (Never managed to work that one out myself, so I’m genuinely curious about how you managed to achieve that), and the effect of ‘typing out these strings one letter at a time’ is rather cool as well. Overall, the graphical presentation is genuinely amazing.
Granted, the gameplay was a bit ehh overall (but offers a decently good ‘hacking according to movies’ experience), and the lack of sound was mildly disappointing (Java does support some uncompressed audio formats out-of-the-box), but I can imagine how much time and effort was put into the graphics alone, and that definitely deserves a rather large amount of praise. Well done!
The strings were an interesting challenge, fortunately java awt has a FontMetrics class, which computes the sizes of single lines Strings, so from there it’s not too hard to figure out the rest.
I agree the gameplay is simplistic, and the game is more of a visual novel/interactive experience. I struggled to find a way to make the mechanics more puzzle-game like.
Sound I wanted to do but ran out of time (tragic, I know). I’ve found a real-time audio library that I’ve gotten to work in games in the past, and was aiming for some sort of adaptive synth music. Definitely going to try to make a version 1.1.0 with audio.

This was a delight to play through! Funnily enough, I worked a cyberpunk comedy hacking game back in SBIGJam 2018 called Malware Mercenary 😅 So I was eager to see how this one stacked up! I was very pleasantly surprised!
The aesthetic is excellent, and really fits the general vibe. I loved the way the fonts were done! Funnily enough it probably made me concentrate on the story more, since I was actively reading to try and decipher what was said.
In order to get the true audio-physical experience, I got out my special keyboard. Custom built with SP-Star Purple 67g keys, that have a slight bump that allow for both speed and accuracy. They make the perfect "thonk" sound. I don't usually use this keyboard, because the keycaps don't have any letters on 😂
And let me tell you! I felt like the ultimate hacker! I was having an absolute blast, whamming out these letters like nobody's business. Little did I know that my keyboard choice would lead to great anguish for the final boss.
Still, I persevered, and spent about 5 minutes trying to figure out which keys were letters. And man did it pay out!
The writing is excellent, and I love the story. Overall I had a shortish but very memorable experience, which has definitely made my day better for experiencing. Well done!

That was really fun! I loved the originality and how it poked fun at hacking tropes. Some hacking sounds would've been neat, but it was really enjoyable regardless. Paraphrasing IGN, "it really makes you FEEL like you're a hacker in a blockbuster movie".
Also, this is the best interpretation of the modifier I've seen.
