I caught up with a piece of horror media from a few years back earlier today, and it gave me an idea for a fangame project, completely detached from the game I was originally going to make for this jam, right down to the choice of game engine.

The thing is, given the timeframe, I'd be able to get a lot more done at a higher quality in the fan project than in the project I'd originally planned, so as the title of this post asks, are fangames allowed? Cheers 👍
