The game is very interesting and really bumping if you get a lot of notes in row :P. But it is SUPER hard! My highest score was 10,700 (don't know if that's good or not :o).

thx, nice that it invokes some feelings. ๐Ÿ˜

but i agree, it gets too hard to fast. now, after its finished i see a lot of opportunities to ease the player in better...

the highest i got so far was in the 20.000s, so there is room. ๐Ÿ˜…

my suggestions are:

  • use a gamepad. i play with an xbox 360 pad, using the analog stick, i think that's the best way. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š
  • concentrate on 1 or 2 lanes in the beginning, because there is no real penalty for missing notes.
  • listen to the whole song which you can download, to learn the rhythm.

but writing all this; the game should just have been easier. ๐Ÿ˜…

If you're planning to keep working on it after this jam is over, it might be nice to add difficulty setting. Where easy could be you just need to have the right lane highlighted, and maybe the others have varied levels of leeway on when you click the button :o Just a thought!

Good but extremely hard   (ยฐoยฐ)

thx. yepp, there was no time for balancing. ๐Ÿ˜…

I recommend using a gamepad, and listen to the original song first. I realized to late, that it might be impossible to beat if one has no idea what it's supposed to sound like.

I should have implemented a preview or something. ๐Ÿค”

Very original and unexpected gameplay ! Wish the game would be played only with arrows. ITs too difficult for me right now haha, but I guess thi would be a killer in  japanese arcade place !

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Yeah, arrows only would be far easier. As I said before, I cannot hit 100% of the notes myself right now. ๐Ÿ˜…

Arrows only could be an easy or medium difficulty mode, maybe. ๐Ÿค”

That's some really nice music. The game was pretty difficult (maybe not knowing the song, maybe the 4-directional pad, not sure) but I love rhythm games and definitely enjoyed the challenge. Fun game!

Developer

Thank you. I think not knowing the song makes it extra difficult. I uploaded the original song now, in case you want to know what it sounds like. (You can find the link in this comment section, or on the game page). ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š

On another note: I recommend using a game pad. It makes it much easier. ๐Ÿ™‚

Rhythm games are not my thing, but I really liked the music and found the concept interesting. An easy mode where you don't have to hold the button to select the lane would be appreciated so I could actually get through the game xD.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I tried to structure the game so that it starts easy and gets hard in the end, knowing that for this jam I could only finish one track. That's why I don't have  difficulty settings, too. But that's a good idea. Maybe one button without lanes is beginner mode, then one lane is easy, 2 lanes medium, etc. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜†

I just realized, that playing this must be a lot harder if you don't know what it is supposed to sound like. :) So I rendered the whole song, which you can listen to here:

I love rhythm games! At first it's pretty quiet, you can play the notes easily. But wtf suddenly everything speeds up, all the notes arrive almost at the same time xD It's very very difficult but very fun. The music is nice and the controls respond well. Good job :p

Developer(+1)

Thank you.  :)

Regarding the diffculty: Agreed. I cannot play the song flawlessly myself so far, my best score is 22900. ;) I pretty much underestimated the amount of work it required to get the music done, chopped up, and synched to the gameplay, so I couldn't balance it very much. :)

But I'm glad that you think the controls are alright, as that was my biggest fear, especially for a rhythm game. :D

Developer(+1)

Just to add to this; you can download the song now, in case you wonder what it sounds like originally. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Love the style and especially the music!

Took my dumb self some time to have an idea to press space to actually be able to play :D

Developer

Thx. ๐Ÿ˜Š

But, uh oh, is the game to cryptic? I tried to explain the mechanics on the game page, but don't know if I succeded on that. ๐Ÿค”

No no it's just me, probably tired after the 3 days of coding :D
