I like the idea! The only thing I can think of is to maybe add the build shortcut closer to the WASD. I say this because when you are out collecting things and returning, you don't want to be messing around by turning the mode off and on.
Overall, I love the game! And Im 4th on the leaders board

Little spoiler I have started working on a project similar to this one since the end of the jam but not as score oriented as this one, but I will still fix the bugs of this one and clean the code to add some of the features I didn't had the time to add. ^^

try to add a guide or a list that help u to play like tutorial
example:
1 - pick up wood
2 build ur boat
