Questions about code reuse.

Hi! This is my first time being a part of a game jam and I'm pretty excited! But first I wanted to ask a couple questions about the etiquette of code reuse. I just want to make sure I fully understand the rules before the jam starts.

I saw the planning section had mentioned that "you are welcome to reuse some assets and code from previous projects, but it is something you should limit." Would something like a pause menu be included in this? I'm planning on doing an on-rails-shooter, and a pause menu would be a nice addition, but not really core to the project. I've done loads of menus before, so I wouldn't really be expanding my skills by working on it. I'm thinking it would just take up time that I would otherwise use refining on the shooting mechanics.

Would that be an example of an acceptable use of older code/assets?

Thank you!

Yep, it’s code reuse, but it’s totally acceptable.
