ALRIGHT! Started this 15 minutes before the deadline, only two songs past in the game but want to get the review in before the jam judgment ends. So far so good! You managed to put guitar hero somehow into a spooky game about halloween. I also like the implication that the killer is only afraid of good music and a bad guitar won't scare them off. I'm going to finish it up before checking out everything, but so far, good work!
BEST END!
I'm really glad to see this turn out as well as it did, love the music and I'm a huge sucker for rhythm games. Only nitpick I had with the mechanics themselves was the lack of forgiveness on when you can hit notes in succession, and the sustains were a bit confusing since there was a "fake" note at the end of them, but again I'll reiterate, I really liked this!
Sorry for leaving your team, I was pretty outclassed by the more experienced programmers you had there, but I'm glad I was able to solidify the idea before you started working on it, even if I played a tiny part in it I'm glad I helped just a bit.
no hard feelings! Candy Land 2021 was a blast as well
I liked the music a lot, the third track was way to brutal for my carpel tunnel, but the second one reminded me of Joy Division.
Well done! I got the best end
can't blame ya for the Joy Division comparison! sorry about your carpel tunnel
No harm done, it was really fun.
This is a really cool game! I love Guitar Hero and it was awesome seeing a take on that type of rhythm game. Buff lady is my favorite character. If you plan to continue working on the game, I should mention that I did notice a bug where hold notes sometimes would disappear before getting to them (this might have been caused by me pressing a previous note too late?). I also have some suggestions for if you want to continue this (I understand there's not a lot of room for polish in a game jam time):
• It would be cool to have more feedback when hitting a note! In Guitar Hero flames pop out and it's really fun
• In Guitar Hero, when you miss a note the guitar track cuts out and a broken string sound plays. I'm not sure if that specifically would make sense for your story since it seems like the guitar is imaginary, but maybe something similar to give the player more feedback when they miss a note?
(Spoilers) It was so sad to find out that Grombit was the killer. He's not a bad frog he just needs love :(
Fumiko (buff lady) was my favorite as well.
Thanks for the feedback! I think the Grombit reveal was one of the best parts of the project. We put a lot of emotion into the tap-dancing scene with him (we hired REAL choreographers to help us out, too!)
fun game! made me laugh every time the main character started playing in the middle of the story (:
I think there's some polish missing on the long notes, it's kind of confusing on whether i hit it or not. but the story is simple and to the point, and the art is impressive. good job!
thanks a ton!
Thanks for the feedback!
Very good music, good overall story, and great art! Good difficulty, especially considering I was only really able to do the 3 note difficulties on Guitar Hero.
I will say in the last song, the long notes that appear right after a short note keep disappearing when I play the short ones as if I missed them.
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it!
thanks! the music was a blast to make, as was the story to write.
heh heh i got best ending on first try fufu. it was really fun! i liked all the songs (esp. that last one)
the artwork is so nice and clean
Thanks for playing it! Please consider giving it a rating if you haven't already :+)
thanks! the music was an adventure on its own because I'm usually not quite so conscious of the lead melody when I make music, but here it was my primary focus...except for the last one. i just treated that like a non-soundtrack song.
