I enjoyed this game a lot!

Pros:

  • When I realized I needed to not kill my cows
  • Limited control over the cannon. Clearly impossible to do perfect

Cons:

  • Cows seemed to run out before people did both times I played
  • The game seemed to end when the last bad guy spawned, rather than when the last bad guy died/got away. I couldn't shoot the last handful of guys :(

Suggestions:

  • Give an indicator for when the cannon is ready to fire; a sound or visual cue.
  • More cows than hired guns would be good. I felt like the balance was pretty good until the cows ran out halfway through, so maybe twice or three times as many cows.

Thank you for playing and the great feedback.

I really should make it clear in instructions about killing bad guys is good, killing cows is bad and that there is just a fixed amount of both.

So the cows and the bad guys are both distributed randomly over a set length at the start of a game (roughly worked out to be the length of the music). However, I realised today I had forgotten to adjust for the cows running slightly faster than the bad guys hence why they finished earlier. At the time of submission had not solved the reason for the issue and I tried adding more cows, but it magnified the issue.

Yes, it is near impossible to get a perfect score. It would take a lot more time fineness the distribution patterns.

My initial concept, I planned another shoot-out in a town with the remaining bad guys, followed by a boss shoot-out whose health would be based on the number of bad guys left.

I pondered whether to add cannon animation and recoil sound, but I was already over budget on development time.

From a certain perspective, this is a fun little twist on the classic vertical space shooter!

One bug I encountered was if I shoot somewhere unoccupied, the cannonball gets stuck jittering around at the target - but it also serves as a land mine and can take out unsuspecting bad guy!

Thank you for your feedback.

I know about that bug, it is caused by race conditions when a cannonball is detecting if it has reached its intended location.  Since you spotted that it explode anyway, decide would take too long to fix it.

Fun game! Loved the art and music. But I don't really understand when I die, something like a health bar would be nice. Nice job!

It's a fixed-timed game. One hundred bad guys and one hundred cows are randomly distributed to all come through in 120 secs which is the length of the music. I should have made that more evident in the description.

Thanks for the feedback.

I think that this was a charming little game. I especially enjoyed the art style - it's simple and yet it works.
