Not bad, I like the classic arcade style gameplay. It can get pretty chaotic as more enemies appear, which is good! The only big negative is that its not extremely relevant to the theme.

Developer

Yeah, in my head it looked different, the execution wasn't there :D

I'm a diehard R-Type and Gradius fan so take a lot of this with a grain of salt.

Audio is maxed out so RIP headphone users, but also the balance between music and sound sharpness is just fullblast the whole time so its kind of overwhelming.

Trigger responsiveness is absolutely key in any Shmup-type game.  The alternating potato gun is fine, but it feels like when I push fire nothing comes out sometimes, and its frustrating.

Also I removed a Star from Visuals because your Stars Background particles disappear in the middle of the screen half the time - its enough to distract my eye.  Most critical feedback here for a Shmup!

Great little jam project! :)   Proper gameloops with a score and everything are important (I missed that goal this time around!).

Developer

Thank you for the detailed critique! I totally agree about the sounds :D Even as I created the game, I was like "oh, people can just turn their volume down... right?".
I do plan to make some more SHMUPS, so this is very useful input!

I liked the mechanic of potatoes coming from alternating guns. It can be the difference between hitting a bug or the bug hitting you if you don't anticipate where your next shot will come from.

Great game, I wish I could have a potato spaceship like this one :)
