The mechanics were a bit confusing; I feel like there's too many abilities and their controls aren't very intuitive. But I see a lot of potential in a game where you lose abilities as the game goes on, it might need a linear level though - I think I encountered a section where I couldn't complete it because I had already traded away the required ability.
I agree with you a lot here, the entire point of games not giving you every ability at the start is so that it's not confusing :P if I did make a game about losing abilities it would have to introduce those abilities as well. It also might help be less "unsatisfying" if you had to switch abilities rather than have less of them overall. Also, could you let me know which section you got stuck on? I thought I had every section get rid of the ability that was required to get to the end but I could be wrong.
I tried to do the section on the left last, and found I couldn't.
Ah I think you're talking about the grappling hook section, which only requires the grappling hook. I probably shouldve made it more clear that the ice beam only works on water :P
There's a grappling hook?
Oh yeah lol it's "C" in the game jam version :P
I love this game 😍
Metroidvanias are one of my favorite genre in gaming, so naturally I was pretty hyped to play this game. I love the twist so much, and it makes for a perfect integration of the theme. My only major complaint would be that the keyboard layout was very confusing for me.
Good job!
Hey thank you! I've never made a metroidvania before but I'm glad this managed to scratch that itch at least a little! I also just updated the game with a version that changes the controls to use wasd as that was a common theme with the feedback :P
Cool! I'll check it out :)
how to mess with a gamer with a 60% keyboard I really wish I could play this but I don't have arrow keys. F in the chat
Yo sorry to hear that, I guess this a good excuse to redo the controls! Just released a version (v1.1) that changes the controls to use wasd if you're still interested!
Amazing game! Innovative concept! The mechanics were well build, except for the grapple. I think that one can be more refined, but still a fun mechanic. The transitions from level to level were smooth. The minimap was of great help. The music and times makes you feel the tension. 9/10
Yo I'm glad it hit all the marks for you! Grappling hooks are indeed very fun and I wish I did more with it. The music choice I think was about 3 hours before the deadline lol, but soundimage.org has some great tracks!
I Like The Grappling Hook.
Lol I'm glad you liked it! The default unity distance joint does wonders.
The mechanics were so much fun although I do think they can slightly be more refined. I messed around with all the different skills and was impressed by the checkpoint system! Fooled around for a long time and had some laughs.
I was planning on having the different abilities help you in combat (enemies that were weak to the ice beam/could be turned into frozen platforms or enemies that were weak to explosives) and exploration (walls that could be blown away). Really has me wanting to make a "real" metroidvania or a bigger version of this, although the concept of "losing abilities" can be inherently unsatisfying :P we'll just have to see lol. Also you have very good art!!
This was cool it was hard to memorize the controls but i like it!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! And I agree with the controls being overly complicated. I didn't have a problem during development but watching others play made me realize just how sloppy they are lol.
This was very cool, appreciated the likeness to classic Metroid games
Yo thats great to hear it hit the mark! Thanks for the feedback!
