Nice aesthetics and smooth controls. I like the hand drawn stick figure style you got going there and having the attacks being shown where they will hit before hand really helps to keep me engaged attacking the boss while also giving me a fair chance to avoid it without making it too easy.

the boss patterns were good. seemed like my extra jumps weren't working/resetting? idk. was thinking hanging on the ledge would be more helpful and that the third gun would be have range and let me hit the boss when he was at a distance, seemed kinda to serve the same purpose as the shotgun.

Developer

Thanks! The extra jumps should return once you land, but I guess there was a bug? And the difference between shotgun and rifle is that you don't have to jump to hit the boss with rifle. Thanks again for the review!

yeah, maybe it was just user error about the jumping, not sure. gg.

I died more times in this game than any other jam game so far ... I never thought about quitting until I saw this screen:

The gameplay loop is super addictive and the controls felt really tight with just the right level of challenge and variation between each stage of the boss battle. The stick-figure sketch theme throughout was so well done. This is a charming game and I hope more and more people in the jam get a chance to try it. I think you should swap out your main thumbnail with a short gif of some of the gameplay, because I was sort of shocked at how well done every aspect of the game was when judging by thumbnail and name alone.

That interactive title screen. Brilliant! As soon as I shot the start button I could tell I was in for something special and you clearly put a lot of love into every aspect of the game. Really well done.

Some feedback:

- Maybe it's just my mouse, but swapping weapons with the right click didn't register sometimes. Maybe the code was still reading that I was holding action on the left click, I don't know what it was, but to change weapons I had to be very deliberate about my click and that would take me out of the flow of the fight. Maybe use "F"? I'm not sure. Could entirely just be my mouse issue.

- The music track was great, but at the point where it looped you could really hear the shift back into the loop, so it felt more repetitive than it actually was.

- I don't think you need this gauge at all. At first, I thought it was weird it was tied to the boss location and maybe was an accident, then I realized it was tied to my mouse location. A cooldown indicator is nice in a lot of games, but I don't think I needed it in this one. I was never worried about when I could shoot my weapon:

Really great game. I loved this one and I'm glad I kept at it. This was that rare feeling of accomplishment you get when you topple a tough boss like taking out a Cuphead boss!

Oh, and great use of the theme and limitation, even if it was literal. I don't think anybody else did this approach this well. The edge shrinking through the combat! Nicely done. Also, "Cool Boss Name" ... Sharpie VonFlapbane. Done.

Great work.

Wow, thank you so much for the review! I'm glad you liked it! :D about the change weapon, I made it so that you can only change weapon after you're done reloading (I know this is very inconvenient, but it was a jam game and this prevents bugs). Hmm... Sharpie VonFlapbane sounds like a funny name XD. The music was made in 15 minutes LMAO, so it is definitely not the best. Thanks again for the review!

I really loved this game! Very polished and detailed and the tutorial was super well done. Sounds and graphics were matched well and I could see a fully fleshed out game! Just need some music that doesn't repeat every 5 seconds :)

Thanks! yeah, the music was very short LMAO

Very unique and cool game! Really loved the art style especially that main menu, It was soo unique and out of the box to have it set up like that rather than just pressing buttons. The indicators on the boss' attacks were also clear and still maintained the challenge factor of the game. I love how the weapons functioned as well and how the controls were really easy to pick up. Great work!

The theme interpretations are very literal, nice choice on the edge getting cut so you become more "on the edge" as the "boss" intensifies. I'll admit its hard, I kept dying at the 32-33 hp mark, difficulty ramps up significantly once the third stage hits.

Art wise, paper/doodle graphics are always a fun take on things, good execution on it and especially the boss design. Music is good but a little repetitive.

The "worst" thing is, there are all these cool power moves like speedy dives and quadruple jumps, yet none of it seems to be of any use in the actual combat against the boss. It doesn't seem intuitive how these abilities can be applied vs the boss, when the edge/ledge is so small in the end.

This just means your idea has potential and a fuller implementation could bring a lot of fun to a paper platformer with this boss guy at the end. Good job!

Thank you for your review! I'll take your words into consideration for the future!
