The game is incredibly fun, I would love to see an extended version with more skills and combos.
The music absolutely bangs. The music plus the artwork is such a great aesthetic. Super great job. My only feedback is about the enemies. Sometimes they bunch up and overlap each other, and then they all attack at once and deal tons of damage. Also their attack cooldown is a bit short, so if there's an enemy to my left and right, I can't attack one without getting hit by the other. These are minor issues though.
Overall I had a great time playing. I can't wait to see what you do next with this!
Solid game, really nailed the feeling of oldschool beat em ups. The controls felt solid and responsive. the audio was amazing and brought me right back to the old days. Will be looking forward updates on this one with more content! Good job!
I think this was a pretty well done project! The use of telephone boxes as a combination checkpoint/shop was a pretty elegant way to approach the 'checkpoint' theme, and while calling xp 'cross points' just to set up the 'cross path' was a bit of a stretch, it was also too funny to not respect it.
The combat was simple but it got the job done; some more enemy variety early on would've been nice though. Maybe instead of just putting increasingly large numbers of the basic enemies near the end of the first level, there could've been one or two bottle throwers in those fights? The combat definitely got more engaging once they showed up, and same with the 'elite' guys.
Using time as a lives system was clever, and gave a good reason why you could get more of it throughout the game. I did notice that I didn't seem to actually be losing any when I died though? I died about once a level going through the game, but the end of level summary always credited me as losing 0 hours from deaths.
Overall this was a quick but cool game, and definitely see room for it to grow just by building up on what's already there.
One of the coolest parts of this game is how well the checkpoints and powerups fit in with the theme and story. I'm not great at beat-em-ups but I think the pacing is a little slow to begin with (too easy to pile the enemies into the same spot and punch them all at once), otherwise, great job!
A fun game. Implements both limitation and theme. No bugs, no issues.
