Isn't getting a Nintendo developer kit kind of hard?

Like, doesn't it require a lengthy application process, some proof that you're a real game studio, a hefty fee, etc.?

Or is there some way mere hobbyists can do this jam?

Hi JoeStrout, I am a mere hobbyist that wants to make a game for the system.  I don't know all the details of the process and intend to learn them during the jam.  I don't know if I'll see anything I make on an official Wii U; the purpose of this jam is to try.

OK, well here's Nintendo's page on the matter: http://nintendotoday.com/wii-u-dev-kit/

I'd like to play too, but at the moment it doesn't look possible.  Please let me know if you find some other way!

The jam will continue.
