An arcade-style card defense game where you PUNCH BIGOTS in the FACE!!!
First of all, I just want to say how GREAT the description set the stage for this game. It honestly reads perfectly for such a campy, yet awesome concept: literally PUNCHING a horde of BIGOTS to defend PRIDE.
The sprites look nice, I like the character design. I especially love how some of the characters can just do MAGIC, that feels exactly like something that'd be in a campy action fighter. The mechanic with the cards was great, and a clever way to play into the "Support" theming; I especially like how cards can not only affect the good guys, but the bad guys as well.
Instead of summoning heroes yourself, you're given a fixed amount, and they just respawn when they fall. I find that to be a pretty interesting and welcome change of pace compared to most tower defense games, where you'd normally be spawning in like 50 guys at once.
Unfortunately, though, this game has a few flaws that make it much less epic than it potentially could be. Although the sound design is very good, the lack of music was a big hindrance. This definitely feels like the type of game that should have awesome action-packed fighting music playing over the whole thing, and having silence instead doesn't feel right.
Also, I'm fine with the game not having an ending, it IS arcade-style after all, but fighting against the mob doesn't really become any more difficult as it goes along. I don't think the enemies should get any stronger, but increasingly faster spawn rates would be nice, especially considering how often your heroes stand still, not really doing anything.
In terms of additions, I guess some upgrades would be nice, maybe you could get points from enemies and exchange those for individual character upgrades, but that's just an idea for a much bigger game.
It's an awesome, fun concept, just needs to have at least some music and a difficulty curve. I forgot to take a screenshot, but I believe my time was about 19 minutes and 30 seconds.
Wow… Thanks so much for the awesome review and feedback!
About the flaws, I totally understand how you feel. We ran out of time and weren’t able to implement all the things we wanted. Specially the progress/difficulty part.
