Welcome Everybody !

I would like to encourage you guys to make a list based on reviews you got to see what went good and what you should look at next time you participate in a Game Jam :)

Here is what I discovered

What went good

"Wow. Is all I have to say about the look of the visuals"

"The visuals especially"

"love the visuals, they're perfect!"

"Outstanding graphics!"

"Wow the visuals on this game are very interesting and fun!"

"I liked your creativity"

"I had more fun than I expected at first tbh. The gameplay keeps on getting better. The visuals are extremely cool. I love stylized art like that"

These reviews drive to conclusion that I did very well on Visuals !

What didn't go well

I realised one tendency among my reviews which made me realise that I failed on explaining how the game works to the players. I will keep this in mind for next Game Jams and hopefully I will improve my skills.

"At first I thought that the game was 3D or top down 2D,"

I am greatful for every review and if you haven't tried my games yet, I strongly recommend you to do this :)

Well, here is my list so far:
What wend good:
"Cool prototype!"
"Still a fun and simplistic game."
"The game feels alive even if it's made with single-colored squares."
"Love the complexity (still got 5 stars on simplicity because of the visuals :D)"
"The random map algorithm is dope aswell"
"Nice game, so fast and smooth, No loading, Instant"
"Great idea! <3"

What didn't go well
"A little tutorial or more text would help."
"I didn't understand anything really. Would be cool if you made the game simpler and not having to change guns and enemies having numbers on them and i shoot them and sometimes they die sometimes they dont"
"I had a hard time distinguishing between the next level and new gun squares, but that's probably just because my color vision sucks lol"
"I didn't understand the numbers and the blue square projectiles."
"Very nice game, maybe little to fast for me, but that's a personal fault :p With some proper audio it would be really good."
"It needs some sound tho :)"
"Maybe add some sort of indicator to tell which way you are facing.""A little tutorial or more text would help."

Seems like the people who understood the game enjoyed it while for others it was just too complicated with too little explanation. People also seem to be missing sound.

So, my plan for the next Jam is easy. Spend some more time on explaining rules and maybe not make it as complex. Also, hope that quicksilver 0.4 is ready at that time as I believe that comes with a better Sound api so I can add those as well :)

What went well for me:

  • People think my game is fun! Enjoyable to play!
  • It's refreshing with a fps in a game jam.
  • Cheat codes and difficulties for added replayability.
  • Overall I'm very satisfied since it seems like most people who play my game get surprised by how engaging and fun they thought it was!

What I need to work on:

  • Should definitely have made a small tutorial section, after playing everyone elses games I can't describe how much tutorial sections help.
  • Should have made it easier and had more people playtest to tell me it was too hard.
  • Should have made things clearer.
  • Overall my main lesson here is that I need to get people to playtest my game, otherwise I'll be blind to the fault in it.

Here it is for those who are interested:

I go through all of the comments on my game everyday and play all of the games I find there!
