Questions for everyone from a streamer

Hi everyone! I'm a streamer who specializes in playing game jam entries.

Up to this point, I've only streamed digital games, but I've always been intrigued by the idea of doing a stream for a tabletop jam. I just found out about this jam today, and given that this jam is filled with single-player TTRPGs (which I didn't even know existed), playable with materials I already have at home, in a system that emphasizes making a record of the events that occur in-game... it seems absolutely perfect for a stream!

However, given my lack of experience with the W&A system, I want to make sure I know what I'm getting into before I stream it. So, I have a couple questions for all you designers:

- Is it a fool's errand to try to play multiple W&A games in one sitting? I understand that these games are often emotionally draining by design, but I'll try to be prepared for that. I'm more concerned about the average time it takes to play a full session- my streams are usually 3-4 hours long, so I want to make sure I have time to fit at least a few games in there.

 - Is there any reason you can think of that you or another designer might not want their game to be streamed? If piracy is a concern, I won't show the rulebooks on stream, so people can't just screenshot them instead of paying. If spoilers are a concern... there's not much I could do about that (though I understand that the details of the plot are largely improvised by the player, so I'm guessing spoilers aren't really a thing). In either case, I always want to be respectful to designers, so if the community thinks that a stream would be a bad idea, I won't do it.

On the other hand, if you definitely do want your game to be streamed, let me know! I had the idea of using a 1920x1080 backdrop to represent the setting of whatever game I'm playing at the time, so if you happen to have a specific image you'd like me to use, feel free to give me a link. Otherwise, I can just grab an appropriate stock image.

Thanks for your time!

Hey! This is awesome and it'll be cool if you can make it happen.

I don't think worries about piracy will be significant, but you can always check in with people before you play their game anyway.

I think a spoiler warning would be nice, but you're right that seeing an actual play won't render the game unplayable.

As for more than one game in a session, I thi k it could be done, but one would be sufficient. I'd suggest you try and pick two games that have complimentary themes if you want to do more than one.

I'm happy to send you a complimentary copy of either of my games (The Sealed Library / Fake Guru, Real Vice). You won't see the Sealed Library in the jam because it's one of two games thst came before the jam.

Echoing what Matt said - I don't think piracy concerns are something you'd need to worry about, since more of us have set up Community Copies for people to get the games for free anyway - but of course it's never a bad idea to reach out to people and let them know you're going to be streaming anyway!

In my experience most games take about twice as long as a normal game of Jenga - so from anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. If you're worried about it getting too heavy, some of the games have lighter themes so you might think about playing one of the more standard W&A games alongside a lighter one?

I'll also echo the offer to send you a copy of either The Wretched or Go Alone if you'd like to play either of them, along with the soundtracks that you can use on your stream.

I'm up for any of my games to be streamed. In fact, I don't think I know any creators who wouldn't be thrilled. My only request would be to make sure you tell viewers who made the game and where to find it. Also, if you need to know how to pronounce my name, it's loo-see-EH-lah. Feel free to message me on Twitter at LuciellaES if you'd like a complimentary copy of A Wretched Luncheon With Your Best Friend Who Sucks at Cooking: https://luciellaes.itch.io/wretched-luncheon. Should take around 30-45 minutes, maybe a little longer depending on how you approach it.

In terms of images, this is the one I've used for my game background (it's licensed under CC0) https://pixabay.com/photos/aurora-polar-lights-northen-lights-1197753/

Thanks everyone for the responses (and feel free to respond if you haven't yet)! I've penciled in the stream for this Sunday, July 5, at 3 PM EDT. Thank you all for your generous offers as well; I'll get back to each of you individually about those.

Super belated, but if you have any interest in Bluebeard's Castle, I'm very open to you streaming it and am happy to provide a copy if you didn't manage to get one yourself!

I will mention that my game comes in two variants - a "lighter", more supernatural version (the Fairytale edition) which plays without the tower (which may make it a better fit if you've got tired of building towers but still wanted to continue playing) and a "darker", more "realistic" version (the Wretched edition), which is closer to the default rules and tone. So you have some options according to how you're feeling.

Whether you take me up on it or not, I've subscribed to the topic so I can at least catch your VOD (I keep Aussie sleep hours so chances are I won't be able to catch you live), so I'd love to have a link wherever you're streaming or archiving it!
