Interesting game, very fun! I included it in my Yogscast Game Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)
Being able to see someone play the game really helps showing what we can improve.
"Wish it had more feedback" really does sum it up.
Very cute game and good fun. There could possibly be a more clear visual cues on the screen for what's going on, as I've won a few times and it's taken me completely by surprise. That's quite minor though. It's very satisfying to play.
This is cool! I could see this being expanded to a full game easily. Having a buffer would be nice so that your actions would execute on time in case you gave them early. It was fun and worth the time played for sure. :)
addicting game! cute art style and simple/intuitive to play and well executed :) would totally play this as a full game if you ironed out the game jam kinks
I kept trying to click too fast, but once I got the hang of it, it was really fun. I really enjoy mouse only games!
I would have loved to add some sort of indicator for when you can send troops again, but gamejams be gamejams.
Glad you enjoyed it anyway though!
I really like this game! It's super addicting and the gameplay is very fun! Even though I couldn't really figure out what it had to do with the theme, it was really fun! Great job!
Glad you liked the game!
We went with predators/prey and police/mafia as our opposites.
Probably not as obvious as some other games in the jam.
I wasn't sure if there was a delay sending troops or if it just didn't recognize my clicks.
The game concept is good, I'm a fan of these types of games, and the AI was pretty challenging. It took me 3 tries to beat the first level. Reminds me of the old flash games you'd get on Kongregate a little.
Like others have said, background music is always welcome.
There is indeed a delay before you can send troops again, we didn't have enough time to implement an indicator for when you can send more troops.
Good to see my AI is actually challenging, this was my first time making one.
If I had the time and skills required to make music, I would have. Sadly I had neither.
Thanks for the feedback.
Websites like filmmusic.io or soundimage.org have a decent selection of music you can choose from that are often used in jam games. It can look a little iffy if you're using the same music as someone else, but there's several hundred songs, so you can probably find something fairly unique and that fits your games.
Both websites run under Creative Commons Attribution, so you're free to use the music commercially or non-commercially, as long as you credit the creator how they request.
I'll bookmark those sites and check them out later, thanks for the tip.
Fun game, I really liked the strategy element to it, particularly on level 3 where capturing the special points needed you to capture some points inbetween. The AI seemed quite competent for a jam game too, which was very impressive - at times it managed to beat me! The graphics were great as well, I loved the pixel art and the colours worked well, both aesthetically and when telling apart cop vs mafia - some more variety in building and environment would've made it even better! I'd love to see more levels, since as it stands this is a solid game, good job!
Thanks for the play and the feedback!
I'm really proud of my first little AI in this game.
My co-developer did a great job on the art of the game.
Variety and additional levels are things I'd love to add, but sadly gamejams don't have infinite time.
No worries, it's still great as it is, well done!
A pretty fun little game!
I do have a couple points after playing it in the browser:
Otherwise, the art style is amazing, and the sound effects are pretty well made.
Thanks for the play!
Music is an area I would love to get more expertise in, so sadly I had no time or skills to make background music.
Of course some visual bugs slipped through during testing.
Capturing the bases is something I was implementing, but I didn't have enough time to fully test and finish it. My bad if it doesn't quite work.
Adding an indicator for troop cooldown would probably be the first thing I add if I were to work more on this game.
