This is so relatable !
(the number of hobbies I have and had..)

The only way to truly enjoy a hobby is that is comes from within ourselves (it makes us happy, we feel great etc.), that it satisfies an internal need.

And in general, I think that any kind of expectation that is not internal but that depends on external appreciation (for example monetization or admiration from peers) kills the fun in a hobby, honestly.

I like trying new stuff in the hopes of finally finding the think that will be IT. I change hobbies because they are no longer "me" or that they were never "me". But I usually, take something from my old hobby to the next, "build upon" even though I never become expert at anything (and I'm also  obsessed with zines since a little while ^^')

I don't want it to sound like I advertise my work, but the zine I made is about feeling extremely happy (while living with depression)  by doing something creative, just doing stuff for the sake of them bringing us joy and nothing else, being in the flow.

Anyway I hope you find your way someday, sooner that later :)

omg thank you for the comment. yeah I agreed with you a hundred percent, but also it's hard for me to find joy in doing things just for fun, while I'm so worried about money all the time. I'll absolutely check your zine, it sounds awesome. thanks again.

very relatable. I love your artwork! For me, it helps to know different hobbies can still feed into things that might come in useful someday, but also maybe not! Sometimes hobbies are just hobbies. Nice work finishing your zine

thank you so much!  yeah, focusing on the process of acquiring knowledge instead of the final product (or the financial profit) itself its really the only thing that keeps me sane sometimes.

Hello this zine is super relatable and I'm sure trying to monetize has a lot to do with your hobby burnout! I've been advised many times not to turn at least one of my hobbies into a career, because it'll stop being fun and will start being work. And then...what do you do to get away from constant work, when everything you enjoyed is also work?

Hi! thank you for the comment. yeah, it's one of those things that you know how you should go about it, in theory, but it can be very hard to do.

I really loved this zine.

As someone who pivoted from a cooking zine (wow, what was I thinking? More work on top of work) to something that was more fun (Animal Crossing Zine), why did we inherit a future where we are forced to monetize our hobbies? Who can afford not to monetize their hobbies? Also, huge pressure to monetize zines despite the culture it was years ago.

Hi, thank you for the feedback. Absolutely, I believe that the thin line between knowing that some hobbies should stay as hobbies but also feeling like you can't afford not monetizing them it's the hardest part. Almost like a guilt around investing time and money in something that it's "just for fun"
