the original Gamemaker from Mark Overmars, I always loved video games, and wanted to make them, and back in 2002 I saw that and was like, yes! and it was set up as drop n drag and / or code, so that was my first introduction to programming, I loved it and here I am now still at it

Yes! Mark Overmars's and Jacob Habgood's two books ("The Game Maker's Apprentice" and "The Game Maker's Companion") were absolutely fantastic! Interesting short games explained in a very simple but exhaustive manner, so that even I, a complete beginner, could build them. Possibility to start with drag and drop, every step explained. In the second book he also talked about The Hero's Journey. I too started with them and have still very fond memories. Wish there where more books like those!

I really got into it once I could mimic a drag- n -drop item in code, and even now I use the 1x version of gameMaker: Studio to edit mass changes with the awesome maginfier glass to find and replace any exact (or in-exact, you gotta be careful of the settings)
