If I were to estimate the game's story right now, we are actually about 45-50% done (with the current update 0.5). I separated the releases to match the update number so you can expect about 4/5 more updates before we complete Monster VIllage.
So by the time we release 1.0 (or 0.95 if we are still polishing some parts like backgrounds and music), the story is practically complete and we can work on our ideas. We are unsure if we will release more updates (ie, 1.1, 1.2) in the future, but that is something we can worry about then.
