The vocal work was definitely the highlight of this submission. The lyrics, effects, performance, it was all *chef's kiss* excellent. I read your "ramblings", and I'm glad you were able to share something so personal with us random internet strangers, that's not easy! I enjoyed this piece!

My only real critique is that I got more of a "spooky evil cave" vibe than underwater from the sound design. Maybe take away a little bit of reverb and throw some low pass filters on some of your higher frequency sounds, especially in the beginning. Then you could take the filters away in the final moments of the piece where the drums come in at 2:52 and have a big swell of sound. Don't change a thing about the vocals tho :)

Thank you so much for sharing, great work!

Thank you so much! I’m really glad you thought the vocals worked well :3 I’m still kind of reeling from the support from this wonderful community in that regard because I really thought it was a mistake putting my vocals out there until people here started saying otherwise!

I can totally see how it could give off spooky evil cave vibes, haha. The underwater elements aren’t super heavy, unlike the track I made for O2A2 which was very water-heavy and would have been perfect for this jam, but I figured submission wasn’t allowed since the jams only just overlapped T_T haha. But yeah, I don't think the watery essence of this one came out as well as I would have liked them to >.<

Now you’ve got me wondering whether I did stick with low pass filters on certain elements or if I took them off in the end, haha. My memory is awful! I know I messed about a lot with that sort of thing! For whatever reason, the low pass didn’t seem to have much impact on some of the stuff I tried it on.

I know a bunch of it does have it on, but it’s probably quite subtle. I guess I could have experimented a bit more with it if I had more time >.< There are already several things I would change about it, haha. I could go back to it and mess around some more though :3

Definitely love the idea of taking all the filters away in the final moments of the piece as you say :3 I really struggled with getting any sort of balance in that section because there were parts I wanted to be heard more clearly than others, but I still feel like some of it sounds as though it’s fighting rather than gelling together nicely >.<

There is 1 thing I am desperate to change about the vocals actually. I think the ‘S’ sounds on the 2nd part are too harsh and it annoys me so much that I didn’t catch that in the first place. I think a different filter might have helped on that front for starters, but really I needed to catch that in the dry file and try to edit it so it’s not as noticeable, or re-record and try to get it to sound better… but that would be difficult when I don’t really have a great mic and know nothing about vocal technique for recording, haha.

Really appreciate you taking the time to give it a listen and leave feedback! :3
