If you mean a non-consumable item from the lust(?) shop, it'll be equipped just by being in your inventory (ex. the bunny suit gives the bonus to exp. gain skill)
If a weapon is bought from a shop during a battle, you can select to equip at the end of the character turn (the equipped weapon appears at the top of the list)
Check your convoy if your issue is something different.
