I really like this and think you added in a number of features that made the design of a maze game more user-friendly and considered than usual. The inclusion of a map, checkpoints and gates really add to the feeling of progression and minimised the frustration with the game. I thought you executed those really well and it added incentive to explore even more - some more landmarks or variety could have helped do so even more, I think! Once you explained the approach to the torch-based "combat" against the monsters it made a lot of sense and worked pretty well - the first time I was set upon by multiple I freaked out! You've done a great job with this game and it is no surprise to me that both involved have had quite a bit of experience with development in the past - it shows! 

Thank you very much for your kind words. My goal in design was to create an experience that didn’t seem too complicated for the player, as the darkness seemed sufficient.
