The giving aspect if you read my description, was originally about the goose [giving] golden eggs...
I didn't know what I was supposed to make when I first saw the theme... until I thought that it's not necessarily the player that has to do the [giving]... Even then though I was not sure how to expand that idea further... and after a while I decided to expand the idea of the story that idea was based on where you are not supposed to hurt the goose; and then came up with this game.
I suppose this was indeed a big stretch to the theme given. It is not the main mechanic and the [giving] is only a minor aspect of the game.
