This game is bloody awesome, so let me dive deeper.
The setting and environment is by far my favorite part--we start the game and find a small base, a tight, secure construction clearly built with the storm in mind, and placed in the middle of a dreary, windswept plain scattered with remains, the result of some sort of unrelenting, catastrophic storms called the Bleeding Storms. Whether they are the cause or result of some sort of apocalyptic event is unknown, and it is not known if the storm taking place in the game is itself one of them or something weaker. Strange creatures become active during the storm and attack the base (of which could be one of the final beacons of hope in the world, for all we know), and I think all of their designs are great, and all our protagonist has to stop them is a handgun and an iron will. This game looks, sounds, and feels amazing and actually has me interested in the 'lore' even if none exists yet. Hitting the "Emergency Shutdown" button to start waves is also very cool. The base having prominent and important lightning rods is extremely cool and I loved the lightning striking them during battle. The pixel art is great and your animation is on point.
The gameplay is tight and the pistol doesn't feel too weak or strong, but manages a good middle-ground. The waves become increasingly difficult in a very good difficulty curve, and the running total of fuel samples leading up to the "Strike" button is cool and immediately makes you want to win just to see what happens when you press it (I won the game by the way). We already know the UI raycasting is slightly buggy for upgrading, but otherwise I liked the simple upgrade opportunities between waves. And then the ending, of course, is cool. Another minor note is that while the storm element is central, the "calm before the storm" concept itself is somewhat weak.
If this game was expanded on and eventually sold, I would pay good money for it. Good job! Followed on itch. Follow me if you'd like.
EDIT: if you couldn't tell, this could possibly be my favorite jam game.
