The mechanics work very well together! Building up the safe areas while venturing in the deadly areas is interesting. I enjoyed it!
The procedural generation sometimes gave me maps where it was impossible to get spores and take them back to base, they happened to be very far away and not enough mushrooms in-between.
I also got a linear level once, where there was just one path to take - it had a few sidesteps, but the immediately looped back to the main path.
It would've been nice if after failure, it restarted from the same level, not from the first one, particularly with the RNG.
