Very Cool!
Legitimately one of my favorite games in this jam! I love the strategy of managing your health and the paths you take. I found myself planning out my routes and only picking up mushrooms I needed in that moment so I could still use that path later in the game. Great job!
The game concept for this is brilliant. Though it took me a bit to get all of it :P. But once I got the bit about building a new base, it came together well. Loved the planning out of where to set it, and to grow protection zones more.
I assume however the levels are procedurally made? As they differ each time after death. If this, then this accounts for some of them being (from what I can tell) unwinable. Less about strategy and more about luck.
If you continue this game (and please do), lay out the levels by hand. a bit more. It'll allow for more opportunity to improve and win over a level, and be able to learn and grow from previous failures on a level.
Really great game design though, really enjoyed playing!
Quite a challenge, I got 2.8k as my highscore on level 2. I am certain I could go to level 3 and maybe beyond but since map is RNG it can get pretty difficult.
The mechanics work very well together! Building up the safe areas while venturing in the deadly areas is interesting. I enjoyed it!
The procedural generation sometimes gave me maps where it was impossible to get spores and take them back to base, they happened to be very far away and not enough mushrooms in-between.
I also got a linear level once, where there was just one path to take - it had a few sidesteps, but the immediately looped back to the main path.
It would've been nice if after failure, it restarted from the same level, not from the first one, particularly with the RNG.
It is very interesting. Different implementation of level up idle games in mobile. It is a nice game but need some adjustments about power and map creation I am assuming map is random
solid game, it was pretty fun nice job! :D
Really good game! I love it!
Really love the concept, looks and sounds great and the random generation aspect is so cool.
The mechanic works very well, really nice work making something so creative and fun to play!
Even just Level 1 is hard. Upon finishing Level 1, whioh was challenging enough and which by itself might have been amazing it was finished in such a short time, I saw there's even a Level....2??
Not only that, but it looks very different from the first level and on top of it all may even have its own different random generation unique for that level.
There may be even more levels who knows? That's astounding that it could be done in such a short time, really amazing job on that!
I may consider to play it again, but for now I only was able to finish level 1. Really nice job on this game!
10/10 would get greedy and die while picking shrooms again
😆
Really fun, for some reason it reminded me of risk of rain while I was playing, but there's not really any overlap gameplay wise. Took me couple tries to figure things out but once I did I think I did pretty good.
I really enjoyed the nostalgia I got from this game. For some reason I reminds me of a game I'd play on early Windows back when my dad got his first computer. Solid interpretation of the theme, fun gameplay. Great work. Congrats and good luck!
Ok so, lemme tell you my story with this game:
At first I looked at the splash screen and thought: oh uhhh, ok, this doesn’t look that good but lemme give it a shot. something something not judging a book by its cover.
And then the game started and… oh hey it looks waaaaaay prettier. Then I was a bit confused trying to remember the main mechanics. I died then and tried again… and then I noticed: this is procedurally-generated. Oh, that’s cool.
Another annoyance was that I needed to go from keyboard to mouse input, which due to my personal setup was a bit cumbersome but probably just a skill issue of mine. Probably just me, but maybe someone else would have the same problem.
Then noticed the power-ups and details, and it turned my impression on a sharp 180° turn. Ok this game def took me for a fool and turned me round. Clutching a mixed first impression and turning it good takes some legit skill. Indeed, that’s one helluva skill advantage.
In summary: first impressions are hella important, even if you have a hidden gem of a game behind.
Less is more. Games don’t need a title screen if they do a disservice to their aesthetic. At least in my (very humble) personal opinion: I would’ve just skip it and use the game to introduce itself, instead of doing an MSPaint intro screen. let the game cook, bro has skill
Apart from that, I had a good time. The lil’ mushroom guy was so cute I really wanted them to survive.
This was pretty addictive, I found the gems far later.
It seems like the map is procedural generated? Very simple, direct and straight forward.
The blinking bar as hint that you need something to survive works really well as a visual cue. I think maybe to make it more oblivious the mushroom could start off by saying "I need some mushrooms now, I don't want to die" or something along the lines to prompt the user to move because on the first play I was still orientating myself.
I hope you continue working on this to put in more obstacles / items to encourage the user to keep going further for a possiblity of a higher "game score". Great job on this.
Thank you for the feedback! I have some ideas to improve this game once the jam is over. I agree with you. Overall it does need more explaining to the player, and it may be less frustrating to start with half health or something instead of nothing. Got a few ideas to have the overall progression more engaging. Thanks for checking it out!
getting the speed power up was my fav momment. also mushrooms was a fun theme.
Cool game. I like the little mushroom guy. It was fun running around as him.
Don't do drugs kids. Overall nice experience!
this was definitely the game i played the longest. very polished, very unique and a lo of fun. great game !
Really cool and original take on the theme. Solid gameplay and the mechanics are easy to understand. I think the mushrooms should give a little more healing but I enjoyed running for my life back to the safe zone.
thank you for playing! Yeah I think it is a bit difficult, the rng can be harsh at times too
What did I like about this game?
The game design is really good, probably better than 90% of the games in this jam. I don't know if the developer saw this gameplay loop somewhere else and decided to copy it, but if it was designed from scratch, I am super impressed. Even if it was copied from somewhere else, the execution is nearly flawless. The vibe makes me feel like it is at least partly inspired by animal well (and that's a good thing). The graphics while nothing special, it's good enough to support the gameplay. The ambience and audio is superb too and goes really well with the theme (both literally and gameplay wise).
What would I change about the game?
While the minute to minute gameplay loop is awesome, the overall loop is a little frustrating. If I die at level 2, I have to restart from level 1 again, which kills my motivation a little bit. I don't know what to change about that, but maybe something rather than just high score for the bigger gameplay loop would bring this game to a different level.
Overall a very good job!
Wow, thank you for the solid feedback and high praise!!!!
You should rate and comment on some other people's game, it'll give you exposure.
